So! Finally, I managed to breed my first perfect reining crosses: reining male and reining female. Evenly split between Trakehner, Irish Hunter, Lipizzan, and Marwari with 25% each. Really looking forward to seeing how they'll do in competitions, then it's just a case of shuffling the breed order.
Barrel racing and western pleasure projects are still ongoing; I may end up abandoning the barrel one, or at least modifying it so that Marwari comes out top with improved speed. With the western pleasure project, my aim is to modify Curly skills to fit said competitions. They're just too cute as foals.  But yeah, we're definitely getting somewhere. I'll be back to report on the competition success, once I get there! |

What breed would be best to cross breed with an akhal teke?

If you want to keep the same skillset: Vanners, both Arabians, Barbs, Canadians, Connemara. You could also bring speed and jumping up for an all-rounder, using breeds like Selle Francais, Morgan, Highland or Shetland Pony. If you want to spice the breed up and, say, switch over to western specialization, I'd cross them with Argentinean Criollo and sign up for cutting competitions. |
So-- I have these two Quarter Ponies both have the same sire and dam- and both are Thoroughbred
25.0% Selle Français 25.0% Quarter Pony 25.0% Nokota 12.5% Purebred Spanish Horse 12.5% but when I breed them I keep consistently getting Thoroughbred. Is this just rotten luck? I cant find any other quarter ponies to breed with that have high enough gp/skill. These two are both 16674gp and over 20,000 skill and the next closest qp in the public coverings is 14xxx. hey everyone, im back after a several year hiatus (thanks to health issues). I would like to try cross breeding my purebred Peruvian Paso in such a way which would allow the foal to excel at Trail competitions. Could someone help me figure out which breed would be best for this? Thanks!!

The best trail horses are Nokotas, and Knabstruppers also have the 'correct' skill set for trail comps. Might be worth looking into those.

Not an ad, genuinely curious if anyone has tips on how to get cross-bred foals to sell? I seem to have a terrible time. Not necessarily sure if it's the breeds I cross, my impatience, or both haha. Thanks in advance!

When you breed two different purebred horses, is the foal the same breed as the sire or the dam? I know once more percentages are involved its the one breed with the highest percent, but I'm confused for starting off.

Yep, a few of us have produced "all breed" horses. It's a fun project!
This is my recent one. Due to how the percentages are displayed, and me wanting a pony coat for the end horse, the actual genetics aren't even, but she does have all of the riding horses and ponies in her lineage (this was as of 2018. I should doible-check whether we've had any released since, because I easily lose track All breed horse 2018

My favorite cross is 50/50 Shetland x Selle. You can get a good selle filly in sales for pretty cheap, and some of the Shetland teams offer coverings for crossbreeders. With tears and some luck, you can usually get a horse that gets close to the top. Mine have always been the top or top 10. |

hello, fellow crossbreeders! anyone managed to get some interesting skillsets thanks to crossbreeding? I've managed to create two 'forest horses' [ie- dressage, gallop, jumping being their highest skills, aka the skills gained solely from forest rides] sort of by accident.
Tallahassee: TB x Holsteiner and her baby Kissimmee: TB x Holsteiner x KWPN I'm interested in creating a cross that has the ability to win rosettes across more than one type of competition. has this been possible for anyone?

I suppose it's possible a few non-divines may have managed to do so if they happened upon really low level rosette comps, but to create a consistent multiple rosette winner, you'd have to breed quite a few generations after creating your foundation for the project so that you could get your lower skill caught up with the top horses in that specialty.
A foal's GP (both in overall and its individuals skills) are roughly the average of the parents. When you breed across different disciplines you tend to lose quite a bit in one skills due to the distribution of certain breeds, who are mostly super high in 3 skills to make them specialized for a specific comp. Even though KWPNs are slightly decent at gallop, breeding them to a TB would result in a foal with GP around (I just used two top 10 horses for this) speed: 3631 dressage: 3794 gallop: 3603 Jump: 3157 . Although this is just an estimate for the GP, the jump skills won't end up high enough to be competitive in jump rosettes, unless you can find some really low level ones. The gallop suffered quite a bit as well, as it's lower than crossing two gallop specialists. If you were to produce siblings of this pair (or a better one, as this was just a quick example), and then bred multiple generations so its GP was on par with the top horses, then that would work.

What pairs of horse breeds are exact opposites? I want to breed them over and over again untill the crossbred foals are almost even in every skill.

Not sure how many of these are "exact" opposites, but they're close Mustangs and Mawaris are opposites to Nokotas and Knabstrubbers Lusitanos are opposite to Highland ponies and Brumbys Hanoverians and Newfies are opposite to Icelandic horses, Walkers, Hackneys, and Friesians Trakehners are opposite to Pasos and French Trotters Holsteiners are opposite to Curly horses

What should I breed with my marwaris to bring up their weaker skills? (trot, jumping, and dressage) If you know any good breeds/ have any good horses please pm me. I aim to get a horse with over 3000 in all skills

Mawaris are opposites to Nokotas and Knabstrubbers The post directly above yours also has several other breeds that are "opposites" if you wanted to use some of those as well.
