In cases where both parents are the same mixture of the same crosses (so both are 50/50 Arabian x Paint in your example), the foal will take the breed that's listed last in the *mother's* genetics list. For example: Midnight Pearl is a Newfoundland dominant Walker x Newie cross. Her mom's genetics has Walker listed first, Newfie second. Her father has Newfie listed first, and Walker second. This rule is the same in the case of breeding horses with a 25/25/25/25 mixture of the same breeds.

What breed would work with thoroughbred? I'm trying to get a really good horse that has good trot, jump, and dressage, horse.

Which other breed should I cross my Vanner with?

Both Nokotas and Knabstruppers have Dressage, Trot, and Jump as their top 3 skills, so if you're looking to increase those skills they'd be good breeds to try out!

soo, I tried out an Appy x TB link cos i saw years ago they end uo mixing really well, what do these crosses excel at? Gallop as their top skill or is it one of the others?

Appy/TB crosses are really great for gallop comps. A TB's top skill is gallop while an Appy's is speed. A TB-dominant cross will (generally) have a higher supporting skill (speed) than a purebred TB. An Appy-dominant cross, on the other hand, will generally have a higher gallop skill (main skill needed for gallop comps) compared to purebred Appys.

No, not in the sense that the dominant breed will cause the skills to flip. Using the same Appy and TB pair to produce one cross that's Appy dominant, and then Bolting them so you'll then get a TB dominant foal will give the same skill order.
It's nifty to purposely produce a particular dominant breed if you enter breed only comps, because like CrimsonDax stated, an Appy dominant Appy x TB cross will have higher gallop than a purebred App, which will give you an edge. KWPN dominant KWPN x Selle crosses are another great example, because there are KWPN only rosette show jumping comps. You'll have the high speed and jump from the Selle genetics to crush the purebred KWPNs in show jumping, provided the points your horse has in those skills are high enough, of course.

What are good breeds to crossbreed with Peruvian Pasos? I'm trying to get high skillers to keep my trot comp running.

I'm still new so take this with a grain of salt.
Trot races: Trot > Speed > Dressage. There are 3 breeds which match this skill set. Peruvian Paso: Trot > Speed > Dressage French Trotter and Finnish: Trot > Dressage > Speed. There are no Speed primary horses which also have Trot and Dressage in their top 3. Likewise for Dressage primary horses. |

Not anymore no, that option was removed several years ago. Now you can only get a breed back to 99% pure, there will always be the other 1% of another breed.

Getting back into competitive crossing... I'm thinking about refreshing my plans for a new crop of horses. (Once I renew Pegasus account cus... well, it's just nice.) Any suggestions? What's the hot new cross lately? I want something to potentially ribbon in its breed prix courses. I'm usually accustomed to blupping English, not western, too, but I'm totally down to branch out of course. Thanks y'all!

Aussie and Shetland ponies are both long-time favorites of mine. Would definitely recommend, because they're all speed/dressage/jumping primary and tend to ribbon in prix very easily. My first competitive crossbreed program had Selles x Aussies, but that was ages ago.
As a general rule, in my experience, crossing ponies and horses tends to get you a higher SP potential.

Does anyone have any suggestions for good Argentinean Criollo crosses? They're my favorite pure breed because they're good in so many different competition types (low level western pleasure, show jumping, gallop, and trot plus a few scattered cutting rosettes) but I don't think I've ever had a very successful comper cross with them. I figure I must just not have tried the right one. Anyone have any favorite Criollo crosses?

So it turns out I was wrong, I do have an excellent Criollo cross lying around. It had just been so long since I looked at him I just assumed he was purebred.
Vermiculite here is a Criollo/Vanner cross and he did spectacularly on the competition boards for Western Pleasure. I think I'll try for another like him. He was a fun one. [url=https://www.howrse.com/elevage/fiche/?id=52719005]

Looking for some advice; I have a few horses that are skiller worthy or will be in a few generations.
The only problem is for a few breeds there are either the other gender is either unavailable or they are outrageously expensive. I do have a few breeds that have relatively low GP to the others and was wondering what the following breeds would be good crossed with: I have added the top 2 skills and GP, so it may be a bit easier. Thoroughbred: gallop/speed 17,714.49 Thouroughbred: gallop/speed 19,368.90 Appy: speed/gallop 18,098.47 Quarter Horse: Dressage/stamina 17,554.31 Aussie pony: jumping/speed 15,689.40 Aussie Pony: jumping/speed 15,620.04 Brumby: speed/gallop 11,386.30 Brumby: speed/stamina 13,720.74 Lusitano: Dressage/trot 19,037.87 Vanner: stamina/dressage 18,106.64 Vanner: stamina/dressage 18,106.23 Criollo: stamina/dressage 17,114.06 Selle: jumping/speed 19,103.53 Since these are potential skillers I would love if the crosses compimented their top two skills if its possible? |
