Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

Thank you

If anyone has personal issues with another player, or needs something back from another player(items/passes), other than covers/fills-please take it to private pms...anymore posting here will mean an instant forum ban without a warning.

A reminder that this is not the place for trading/buying/selling BMI, horses or advertising or asking for someone to train your horse.
If any of these things occur, you will be forum banned without prior warning.

Thank you. I have a Fri KWPN cross project and am tired of trying to breed mares that would work so I have considered bringing in other breeds or tweaking the percentages to help keep the Fri dominant.

So, I have another question. If I were to breed my Fri KWPN line to a pure Fri, I would end up with 75 Fri, 25 KWPN. Obviously, I want to stay as close to 50/50 as possible. If I were to continue breeding my 50/50 horses to the resulting cross to get as close to 50/50 as possible, will I reach a point where it levels out to 50/50 or will they stay slightly Fri dominant?

I believe they would stay slightly Friesian dominant.

I've done a couple different crosses with Arabs and all of them have been fun but my top two were

Arab x Mustang which made a killer reining horse

Arab x Argentinean Criollo (my personal fave, had several generations of this specific cross) which made a show jumping beast in breed only comps
(Was criollo dominant)

I'd be happy to provide links if you'd like to see them and potentially wager testing one of them out

Anyone have a TBxAppaloosa Stud with 15500+ GP and all skills bolded? If so PM me! I am looking for a covering OR a sale! Finishing up my TBxPH mare and I would love to breed her with a TBxAppaloosa!

I'm debating on what to do with this girl.

French Trotter x Thoroughbred x Tennessee Walker x Peruvian Paso.

I'm thinking Western. I have three boys I can send her to to experiment. I'm actually really enjoying crossbreeding again!

I am looking for a cross stallion that has skill sets in this order

Jumping, Dressage and then stamina

I have a mare that is strong in Stamina, Dressage and then weakest in jumping.

If you have a stallion that fits my criteria please pm me with the link - her GP is 14700 so the stallion must have highest GP possible - prefer 15700 plus

Hey, everyone! I'm new to crossbreeding. I just crossed a TB mare with an Appi and got this little guy. I want to eventually use him for gallop rosettes. Any tips on training?

if you're looking to blup, i'd use an appy schedule, as he looks to have inherited his skill set from his appy side. when he gets to that age, i'd begin him in cross country, trot, and gallop races (:
KWPN or Selle is popular.

Out of curiosity, are there any crossbreeding teams on howrse? I love crossbreeding and was just wondering if there are any teams that competitively crossbreed (not just single players)?

I'm pretty sure teams can only put their affix on purebreds, so I doubt it. I could be wrong thoughdefault smiley 8-)

Does anybody have recommendations for breeds to cross to my AP stock (various breeds) to improve dressage GP? I was thinking KWPN but also wondering if there may be better ones out there.
Lusitanos would be best.

Does anyone know of a high stamina and high GP breed that is not GV or Arabian that I can cross to?
By Retired breeder, 25th May 2020 18:20:25

You can get covers from the top Marwari team, which has a Gallop/Stamina/Speed skill set. Not sure what you're looking for specifically, though. If you want some more suggestions, PM me with the link to the horse.

There might be some breeding groups but you can't have a formal "team" with crossbreds, as team affixes can only applied to purebred horses. You could always try to start a breeding group; depending on the breed I'd probably be interested!

I had my first crossbreed a couple days ago! It’s a Knabstrupper-Lusitano cross named Ebony. Any advice on how to train her?

There is no "official teams" due to registered teams needing to be purebred. However, I have started an "unoffical" team of Friesian dominant 50/50 KWPN crosses called The Legacy Project. Currently it is just with me and my brothers (I am waiting for their accounts to access direct sales before they get officially started).

The reason it is called Legacy is due to the fact that my mare, DoomArisesAtMidnight, is a monster cross country horse of this cross that is making her way to the top 10 of the cross country wins. She is currently 81st. I wanted to have a line of that cross as a legacy of sorts to her and all the horses have to link back to her somehow.

They are really really good at lower level cross country competitions.

Is the best quarter cross a thoroughbred? Or what would be the best breed?
So, I need some help with something I observed with my line of crosses.

It used to be, or maybe it still is and I am just having awful luck, that the mare would have to have the desired breed listed second in multi-generational 50/50 crosses. I have noticed that all of the horses I have bred recently, colt and fillies, have the dominant breed listed first. I just tested a breeding of a mare and stud with the dominant breed listed first, and got the non-dominant breed of foal.

I have also noticed that the recent 50/50 crosses posted here all have the dominant breed listed first. Is this a new thing? Or is it purely coincidence?

Example of what I did:

Stud, Mare, Resulting Foal

Something I discovered a few years ago, and asked about in Contacts, is that breed order is randomly listed if the percentages are all the same.

In some of my 4-way Gypsy Vanner dominant crosses I had to breed a couple of different foals to get a 50/50 Vanner cross with Vanner listed second, so that my final foal would be a Vanner.

The 2 Walker crosses below were bred back in 2017, and are full siblings, though produced at different times, and their breed order is different.

WalkerxNewfie

You have to be careful when breeding a line of an equal percentage cross if you want a particular dominant breed, because the breed order can change and flip your dominant breed as a result.

Okay, so basically I am having extremely bad luck. Like, out of the last 15 foals I have had, they have all had Friesian listed first and that is the breed I need to result in.
