It's funny, when I first saw the new coats I was really disappointed- but the more I look at them, the more I look forward to getting them!

I know right, people "hated" the coats we have now when they first arrived and now suddenly they're perfect? default smiley xd

That's wjy we are kindly advising howrse to get people to do the designs, who have actually seen real live horses in all these breed, or send out the designer to a horse farm with a certain breed and make them draw the coat there.

Some breeds are terribly uncommon in some places. I'm pretty sure the artist(s) lives in france, they probably don't have that many criollos, akhal tekes, Highland ponies etc. They probably have a limited amount of people who work on the graphics, they can't just hire people from everywhere to do a stupid horse design. Like really. The designer(s) probably did the best he/she/they could.

Many breeds are uncommon outside of their country of origin. I'm willing to bet that not many people in the US has seen a Gotland Pony. I could draw one right now, and it would look like one. I've seen them so many times (and I've had one myself). A Quarter? It would look nowhere close to a Quarter, because I've seen a total of one in my entire life.

equestrienne1979: google,Deviantart, horse books, equine sites (breeding farms)... mm. Havent seen any arabian IRL ever but I know how they look like. A artists job is to do research before doing any work, not just come with "upps we dont have criollos around here so dont know how they look like". thats a lazy persons excuse.

For some of these new coats I am disappointed. I voted for the update so I can't complain, but I expected better results. There are artists who know nothing about horses that can produce better results, simply because they do research about the breeds. It's a little sad.
Well, I for one did not vote in favor of most of the new coats. Most look just terrible. A few look better, but ones like QH, Friesian, Gypsy, TB, Mustangs, etc. are AWFUL! Glad I don't breed those, lol.

Yup, exactly! And breed registry web sites would be the best place to go, to see the "best" examples of the breed. I've never seen a Teke in person, but I've done enough research that if one did walk up to me, I would be able to identify it default smiley ;).

Well yes, but it's much easier to do research while seeing one IRL, in you know.. 3D rather than a flat image. They probably didn't have all that much time to do this.

I'm just saying. I don't think they made them "ugly" and not look like the breeds on purpose. If you're not drawing horses a lot like me it's difficult to replicate a breeds specific looks. They were also tied to pretty strict standards due to the tack.

If you're not around horses a lot it's often difficult to comprehend what something is on a picture. Some things about drawing horses is so much easier to learn while looking at a horse for real. Sometimes pictures are not enough.

Replicating different breeds are probably the most difficult thing, it's very easy to mix things up, make things too close to your "default horse" (like the horse you draw when not thinking about a specific breed) etc.

Not if I have to pay more equus and passes for bonus items on my Prix and Rosette horses. This game already costs me enough real money as it is. If I have to spend more, I will be rethinking my investment. I am an adult player and have purchased a significant number of passes since the start of my game last year.

phönix, you're not wrong, but they never gave us a deadline so time should not be an excuse on their part. This is not an essential change. I would rather they took longer and got it right. Plus this game earns enough to hire someone with a decent knowledge on horses. default smiley (lol)

People hated it when the V.1's changed to the V.2's and people hated it when the v.2's changed to the current ones. But people got over it, and smart people will get over this change as well. Brooding about it won't do any good

I'm in favor of most of these new coats. The only ones I really don't like are the trotting breeds and the Brumby/Icelandic horses. The rest I really like.

I really hope they will. They don't need too much work done to make a big improvement in my opinion; just more feathering and the mane and tail should be 'wilder'. default smiley :)

I like what they will be doing to the horses. At least now they will look more like "horses". I mean they wont be completely normal but.... Still.

where do they state that? What bonuses would we have to pay for extra?

I guess, but they probably have one or more people who do all of their graphics.. The horses are only a small thing they do, so it seems rather stupid to hire one person for that only.. default smiley :) The divines no one really expect to look like real horses, and they change the graphics once every few year.. ^^

I mean, it might as well be the best they really could do ... default smiley :p For some people amount of references won't help, if you can't draw a horse without a 1:1 reference, then it will turn out like this... default smiley :p The fjord is so "perfect" in anatomy because it was practically copied straight off a photo reference.. default smiley :)

Just out of curiousity, can anyone show me what the previous coats looked like?

Just because they didn't make them ugly on purpose doesn't change the fact that some of the coats (Thoroughbred and Quarter Horses particularly) ARE ugly.

Also as you say "if you're not around horses a lot" they're hard to draw, well shouldn't Owlient employ people who know about horses instead of just having any old person from Ubisoft who doesn't know a thing about horses trying to draw the coats?

Are you asking like the ones when the game were first created? (I personally liked those better than the ones now) Haha. If your asking for those... Your gonna have to look on some pages. default smiley (lol)default smiley ;)

If you mean v1 coats type in on google 'v1 howrse' then the breed you want (e.g. arab) which gives links to pictures showing them on deviantart.
