My next breeding plan: ready to be bored! Zap this stud to female! http://www.howrse.com/elevage/fiche/?id=9626908 Breed to a horse like it's self before bolt. What do you think or just buy a female which is seeming hard to find :/ |
i dont breed mixed breeds so i dont know much about hem. what combination would be best to start off with to be used in comps? pm me or post below.

I know, Should I buy maybe a 1000 cross bred and breed it with my other 1000 IH/Paints to see what happens!
|
The darkness, what are you looking for in a stud?
|
OK, this seems like the place to brag a bit!
I did some turbo-breeding today (oh the joys of a day off) and came up with some KILLER foals from my new IH mixes! Kittenhood - Arab stamina, Hunter dressage, and a touch of Paint speed! This little guy will pick up another star during games. Again, he managed to keep most of the speed of a Paint but upped his dressage nicely. And this one will also pick up another star after games - believe it or not, he's the one I am most excited about because my focus is on Friesians and he will provide some great potential if I match him to a slightly Frie-biased cross mare. I slammed out a ton of foals in 48 hours and put most of them up for sale (all this breeding is draining my coffers, lol) but just HAD to keep a few to expand on another generation once payday comes and I can get more passes. The Hunter influence has certainly increased my GP, though it has taken me a few steps away from my pureblood Frie goal. Oh well, I guess I ought to consider that one a moving target, heh heh heh...
|
Julia, I tend to concentrate mostly on dressage and speed when breeding comp horses - most horses who are super-skilled in a classic gait are lacking in one of those two skills and I can often bump out a trot-monster or a gallop-monster with one of my faster, spiffier horses (even though they have me whipped in that gait). The trick is to know which races concentrate on which skills, and by how much.
For example, showjumping comps weigh the winner by jump skill (45%) more strongly than dressage (25%), but a gallop weighs heavily on dressage (30%) and speed (20%) versus gallop (only 45%) so if I beat the other guy with speed and dressage, he can have all the gallop he wants and I'll still take 'im. A trot weighs the same as a gallop.
|
ok well i arabians, tbs, and shetlands alot so would that make a good combination?
|
Gallop and trot is very weak in Shetlands, though they have killer jump. Trot and jump are weak for TBs, and trot and gallop for Arabians.
I'd say cross Arabian to TB for the stamina and GP, then maybe toss in a little Shetland (heh, double entente) and see what pops. Your trot will not move much no matter what you do (you'd need Friesian or Standardbred for that) but Shetland will help that jump.

When my paint mare is BLUPed, I am going to breed her to my BLUPed Newfie stud.
|
I just made a very ambitious - and probably insane - decision.
I am going to take my three top broodmare crosses, and breed them each to top Paint, Hunter, Friesian, and Arabian stallions until I have a foal and a filly of each breed for each mare (yes, that would mean a total of 8 foals each or 24 foals total). Duplicates of each gender will be sold off. Once I have the whole bracket, I will then selectively start breeding the foals to each other, based on which ones have the most complementary skills. The results should be quite nice - if I don't go utterly mad in the process! My reasoning behind it is that each mare, though all are within 5 GP of one another, has a slightly different set of skills. The best way to get good results is going to be to expand the gene pool significantly to get more options for each offspring. I think. Maybe I am just up too late and starting to hallucinate, lol!

so far I only have 1 good mix breed.
Shetland/TB He's still being trained to his max skills. He's 50% shetland and 50% thoroughbred. Pretty much he's the first mix breed I've really trained O.o |
Cryfenril, Just remember to blink occasionally!
Sounds like a great plan. Most ambitious indeed! if you are looking for covers, I have a 762 Hunter.
