I just saw this topic, thanks zepharo! I'm going to go back and read some of the older posts when I get a chance. Work has been insanely busy which is welcome after being unemployed for 9 months.
Anyhow, my latest crossbreeding project was to breed a Welsh crossbred that had Trot as one of it's top two skills for lesson gain. I was thinking it was going to take forever as I was going to use just Welsh and Standardbred, but then I got the idea to add another strong trot breed, Hackney, to the mix. Then I could have a lower percentage of Welsh and have it still considered a Welsh. I was able to buy one of the breeding stock horses I needed already BLUPed which saved some time and I already owned another one who was useful, and four generations after I started, I ended up with this: China Roses She's currently leading the Welsh skills rankings for Trot by over 50 points. It was a lot of fun to try to figure out what breed(s) I needed to breed to get my end result and that's part of the fun of crossbreeding.

do you think that a Standardbred/Hackney cross would be good for trot? because those are like the ONLY two horses with really good trot.....
I have 3 Hackneys and maybe it would be fun to breed those, don't you think? |
Here is my latest Quicksilver by way of ⋛ Pøฬєя Sŧдŧiөи ⋚ courtesy of pixiesbite and Flamebird

jbradin23 - Thank you.
I appreciate the opportunity to be able to access the good work of other players. I've said it before and I'll say it again. It isn't easy to get a good cross bred howrse. You need access to the best possible howrses and the understanding of how each individual breeding affects the end result. I spend a great deal of time spreadsheeting the potentials before breeding. Saves a fair bit of time and frustration. The darkness - I ran Rising Legend numbers with Flamebird, my 17 star standardbred. The foal could have the following skills: Stamina 128.58 Speed 140.595 Dressage 137.22 Gallop 96.01 Trot 119.89 Jumping 90.12 Total GP could be 712.42 zepharo - I am loving the ability to connect with fellow cross breeders. I am enjoying the new possibilities of game play opening up for myself and other players. Thank you for providing the opportunity for fellow like minded players to gather.

I only just found this topic... and thanks! At the moment I am just experimenting. Currently I'm breeding 100BLUP foundies together in various combinations and examining the results. Eventually I want to see if I can breed a horse/pony with EVERY breed in its genetics (if thats possible) with no inbreeding and also to breed perfectly balanced skill horses, also without inbreeding. Thus was born Dragonsflame Balance. I currently have 1 RD stallion, one paint stallion and one fresian mare with 100 BLUP and also other breeds unBLUPed.

I found an Arabian mare, my friend has:
If I cross it with my horse: http://www.howrse.com/elevage/fiche/?id=9081147 I get an Arab foal with! Stamina:162.17 - 7* Speed:114.54 - 2* Dressage:163.95 - 7* Gallop:128.18 - 3* Trot:66.99 Jumping:115.23 - 2* Total:751.06 |

how do you calculate the stars of the foals? and the GP? O.o
|
By Retired breeder, 11th April 2010 20:29:13
The Gp is:
The Mares and Studs GP added together the halved. You can do this with each still or the whole GP but there is a 1.2 difference, with games and this is not always right it can sometimes be a few places off. And there is one star for every 10 after 100 in a skille. 101 counting as 1 star. Pm me if that doesn't make sense. |
Thank you Clematis for your compliment. I worked hard to get China and I'm very proud of her. The first time I bred that last generation, I ended up with Standardbreds, so I had to Bolt the stallion into a mare and breed to a Welsh/Standie stallion which fortunately I already had.
It's great hearing what everyone else is up to!

A rare and wonderful treat - a six-skilled Hunter foal!
I am going to sell him, since he isn't quite up to the GP I am looking for in my breeding program, but man was it nice to see him arrive!
