The NIB FAQ:

What is a NIB horse?
A NIB horse is a horse that is not inbred; every horse in its pedigree appears only once (with the exception of Ouranos and Gaia). Horses with "Horse Disappeared" in their pedigree are generally not accepted by NIB breeders unless the horses in question were bought before the horses disappeared and have verifiable pedigrees.

Are there green star NIB horses?
These horses have lower GP than green stars and other top horses, as not inbreeding limits the breeding availability and is slower to progress than breeding brothers to sisters and so forth.
**Misabel edit: The first Green star NIB horse was created on February 21, 2011 - a 6th generation Connemara pony with a star in stamina. He was the end result of a lot of hard work and effort, but now that some dedicated breeders have shown it can be done, we all have something to shoot for!

Are NIB horses considered better than green stars or inbred horses?
Goodness, no! Nobody here is attempting to make that claim. Just like the Zero GP horses, these players choose to play the game in their own challenging way.

How can I get involved with NIB breeding?
It's simple! Start by purchasing a few foundation horses, or horses whose pedigrees can be tracked down and verified as non-inbred. Then carefully breed them to create foals with good GP's and skills that are not inbred!

Hey Twinjodi, thank for replying to me previous post!

I've just thought of something when looking for foundies in sales - what do you guys think about breeding two horses that has one (or more) same horses in their family trees? So, for instance, same grandparent or something like that. Because, technically, these two wouldn't have one horse in two or more different places in one family tree, but the same horse can appear in both family trees, making their offspring somewhat related. So I guess I was wondering if you always look and compare family trees of both parents?

Also interested if you tend to always breed with foundies or is it fine for you if they are just NIB?

I think I would really like to play this way, since it feels more real and less competitive, but I'm a little worried about "doing it the right way". All your answers are very much appreciated! default smiley ^)

Oh, and one last thing (for now) default smiley (8)

For anyone here that plays with "new foundies", so not original ones - do you still experience competitiveness, since there are always new foundies appearing in the game, with better GP from the start? This is something that I feel would maybe get on my nerves in some time default smiley (o)

In breeding is when any player created horse appears more than once in a horses family tree.

So to answer your question before this, that would still be considered in breeding. Any repeat of ANY horse in any generation for one horse would be considered inbred.

We keep our horses separate by following them on spreadsheets, etc to keep lines clean but there is a limit as to what we can do since there are a limited amount of horses to use.

NIB in general is not SUPER competitive, but to also keep it straight we have the generation and the starrage behind it. And there are not a lot of people breeding so newer foundations that players have are not utilized. But this way we can see if it was obviously bred with higher GPs than the previous highest ranked one.

Does anyone happen have a list of which breeds came out as original 350 gp foundations? Probably something I should have kept track of, but just curious before I spend the time to figure it out. default smiley (y)

Thanks Twinjodi, that helped a lot!

Is there maybe an updated list of players and their NIB breeds?

Maybe look at the list of rankings above? Might be a starting point.

It's not as up to date as i would like but we are working on one in my forum.

Just a tip for those who are looking for original foundation stock.

How I look for original foundation stock is to flip the little arrow at the GP so it points to your left, then type in 355, then go over to Pure breed and click on that so the check mark shows and then click on Search button.

Of course, if you're looking for a certain breed, make that selection, and the age.

Remember, if the arrow points to the left, it'll pull up those horses with LESS than the number you put in the box, and if it points to the right, it will pull up horses with MORE than the number you selected. Just like in math class. default smiley (lol)

AND before you click on the Buy button, look the horse over to insure that it IS a real original foundation horse. I got bit once because I didn't look, and vowed never to do that again. default smiley (o)

You can narrow it down better if you go to 352 = max GP on an original was 351.20 GP. default smiley :)

@ tigrelily also if your looking for foals set the age to <8 months and the skills to <1

You still have to check the stock before buying though.

I really wish howrse gave us the option to search for foundation stock default smiley :s

I am looking for players and horses to help with my NIB breeding farm! I mostly breed Arabians and Thoroughbreds but have other foundation horses I would like to find matches with! Just shoot me a pm! I work with the new foundies so GPs of 4400+

Also, answering a question I saw posted earlier about competitiveness with the new foundies, I personally do not feel competitive about it, I just want to breed my horses and pass on the most/best skills possible for personal enjoyment default smiley :)

I have just gotten back into the game, I have two foundation Lusitanios with 6000gp each. The male is already ready to breed but not fully BLUPed yet as I am just registered yesterday. Let me know if you want a covering from him default smiley :)

I've got 350 and 351.20 Foundies if folks need to add to their herds default smiley :) Check under the Filler/Foundies barn, under Foundies. I did a lot of Foundy rescue for a while...some are blupped, some mares are already bred. I'm also willing to help fill comps, as I have a lot of very low skilled fillers. default smiley :d Just let me know.

To all OG NIB breeders,

After many years of playing Howrse, started summer of 2007 within months after English version first released, I have come to the sad decision to quit. My health has deteriorated to the point where it is just difficult to get on my computer.

Since I was one of the original NIB breeders, and even after switching over to Arabian non-NIB unicorns, I have collected a large number of OG foundations. If anyone is looking for OGs please contact me. If I don't reply immediately it is because I only get on periodically although planning to attempt to get on at least once a week until I leave. Please don't go by the foundation breeding tab as many of my OGs are still in my other horses tab since the days that I temporarily dropped off as a VIP and all my breeding tabs, except other horses, were deleted. Will try to get them transferred, but can't guarantee that I ever will. Just let me know what breeds you need, TESF horses are NOT included as those stallions that have supplied breeding in the past are being transferred to another long term player who will keep them safe so long term NIB lines aren't compromised.

Sorry to make this decision, but I no longer find Howrse challenging and fun to play as it was in the early years. In the days when horses could get sick and you had to make sure you had all medications stockpiled as they weren't always available in the store. When pastures and rides could be dangerous after storms, when horses most likely to get sick. When Rivenwood was still here and fighting for the rights of NIB breeders and we were able to actually truly compete against non-NIB players in races and such. Very much miss those years.

Thank you to all NIB breeders that I have worked with in the past, when we could safely breed to each other's lines without worrying about "disappeared" horses. I will not leave until I have completely liquidated all horses, both NIB and non-NIB.

Thank you for your time in reading this message and hope that it is not deleted as it is the only means I have to get in touch will active NIB players. Will undoubtedly talk to some of you before I leave, may be several months from now as will only be able to be on Howrse for short periods once or twice a week (if at all possible).

To the player who is keeping TESF stallions,

The COVID I had last November, from which I am still trying to recover after 2 seeks in the ICU, wiped out a portion of my memory. The area most effected is that of names, and I cannot remember who you are. Please contact me ASAP so that I can transfer the rest of the stallions to you.

Thanks, Yankee Lady

I will be quitting in a few months.
I have a stock pile of original and later foundies of various breeds.
I want them to go to people who will appreciate them.
Message me.
tigrelily has taken on the challenge of maintaining the TESF stallions.

I will miss playing with you. Thank you for the years I got to spend playing along side you and yes I do miss the way Howrse was challenging. Reading that paragraph brought back so many memories from when I started. NIBing back then was so different that we really did feel like a community rather than a string of players who come and go. The effort put in to get 1* and then 2* and then to 4* before it all fell apart is something that I will never forget. I will never forget how kind you were to me.

I forgot I also have a number of 1st gen NIBers that need homes. Please contact me if you want any as I would rather they went to active NIBers as I liquidate as well.
