Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

Thank you

If anyone has personal issues with another player, or needs something back from another player(items/passes), other than covers/fills-please take it to private pms...anymore posting here will mean an instant forum ban without a warning.

A reminder that this is not the place for trading/buying/selling BMI, horses or advertising or asking for someone to train your horse.
If any of these things occur, you will be forum banned without prior warning.

Ok, thank you.

How would one go about starting to breed crossbreeds for comps?

It would depend on what you would want the horse to do well in.
Looking to do one that does well in Cross Country

Arab x Vanner are the best for this. Make sure Arab is the dominant breed so purchase a Vanner mare and cover her with an Arab stallion. ALWAYS get the highest possible GP available in sales and covers.

Check out the horses in my favourites box at the top of my presentation page. They're all Arab x Vanners.

The Legacy Project is really making some progress at the moment. I have been solely focusing on comping my 3 ranking horses. I am about 500 wins short of having all three in the top 100 and about 40ish wins short of having one in the top 50. I really feel like I am making some good progress towards my goal of one in the top 10!

Congrats!!
I've never crossbred before but I'm suddenly interested in it. What would you cross with TBs?

Is there a Discord server for howrse crossbreeding? This forum seems dead, and I'm not getting anywhere...I have tons of mares to breed, and cross studs are very difficult to find in publics...

I'm starting to gather horses to act as the foundations from my Arab-Haflinger project.

Here's what I'm starting with:
Haflingers:
Lowest: 12,517.68
Highest: 13,450.73

Arabs:
Lowest: 18,816.85
Highest: 18,855.41

I'm not quite sure how far this cross will go as the Arabian and Haflinger's skill sets are identical in regards to the strengths and weaknesses in them.

If, in the probably very likely event, that I need to add a third breed into this breeding project what breed should I add?

Since they are going to be of the Haflinger breed they'll be put into the Western discipline, but since they have very similar skill sets I'm a bit worried that Speed and Trot will take a heavy hit

I've started a 'well rounded' project; I'm breeding howrse breeds together that have the top skills and making a 'breed' that had a skill set that doesn't have any low skills and can theoretically do well in both disciplines and in all competitions.

Here's the breeds I'm starting with:
Stamina: Teke/Canadian (1,654.96)
Speed: Fjord (1,654.96)
Dressage: Morgan (1,655.63)
Gallop: Marwari (1,655.63)
Trot: Paso (1,655.63)
Jumping: Shetland (1,655.63)

I would like to note that in the individual skill listed beside each horse there are 11 for stamina, 6 for speed, and two in jumping that I could have chose from, but these are the breeds that are cheap in direct sales since I feel that a project shouldn't stick you without eqqus. So these breeds are both fairly inexpensive and high quality.

I also want to note that Canadian is beside Akhal-Tekes due to the fact that they are a bit cheaper then the Tekes.
I bred out a Curly/Teke x that does very well in XC and fairly well in Cutting.

I do have a few studs in my Crossbreds - Full BLUP Studs breeding farm if anyone needs covers. All covers are "free" (as free as possible)

what would be the best to cross with quarter horses?
What would the best breed be to cross with a Lusitano if you want them to do better in dressage comps? I was thinking of maybe a French Trotter or Paso to raise trot skills more, but i'm new to crossbreeding so not sure.

Hello guys,

Just wanted to share a little project I've been working on: Here and Here

I got my hands on a really good Shagya mare around two weeks ago and have been messing around a bit. Currently, I plan to cross the TB x Shagya filly with a Holsteiner stallion when she's fully BLUPed. The Shagya x Holsteiner I have has been a tough BLUP but it's been really interesting to see how well-rounded she is (and as of now she's also #1 in Holsteiner stamina!)

Side Note: Does anyone know why my Shagya x Holsteiner gets the same competition difficulty as horses with 5000-6000 stamina when she only has 4400? Is it because of her higher jumping and dressage skills? Cuz it's been really tough trying to find competitions where she isn't completely beaten out by higher-stamina Vanners (very, very few Holsteiner-only XC comps out there at her level)

Also, does anyone else prefer the Shagya Arab over the normal Arab for cross-breeding? Their higher speed makes them pretty good for making horses that can do both XC and Show Jumping.

I'm currently brainstorming a way to create the American Saddlebred on here, trying to stick to the original start to the breed as much as possible. I would love for howrse to include more breeds and showing events such as saddleseat
