The NIB FAQ:

What is a NIB horse?
A NIB horse is a horse that is not inbred; every horse in its pedigree appears only once (with the exception of Ouranos and Gaia). Horses with "Horse Disappeared" in their pedigree are generally not accepted by NIB breeders unless the horses in question were bought before the horses disappeared and have verifiable pedigrees.

Are there green star NIB horses?
These horses have lower GP than green stars and other top horses, as not inbreeding limits the breeding availability and is slower to progress than breeding brothers to sisters and so forth.
**Misabel edit: The first Green star NIB horse was created on February 21, 2011 - a 6th generation Connemara pony with a star in stamina. He was the end result of a lot of hard work and effort, but now that some dedicated breeders have shown it can be done, we all have something to shoot for!

Are NIB horses considered better than green stars or inbred horses?
Goodness, no! Nobody here is attempting to make that claim. Just like the Zero GP horses, these players choose to play the game in their own challenging way.

How can I get involved with NIB breeding?
It's simple! Start by purchasing a few foundation horses, or horses whose pedigrees can be tracked down and verified as non-inbred. Then carefully breed them to create foals with good GP's and skills that are not inbred!

As I have lost a lot of interest in this game, I am going to be breeding NIB Morgans... Hopefully anyway. Got tonnes of Foundation stock that I'm playing with at the moment but no foals yet.

The great thing about the World Tour breeds is that there is plenty of foundation stock out there, often ungamed foals meaning you can get them to 351.20 GP - it's a great start on NIB breeding with those breeds.

Right now is actually a great time for NIBing - as I have found with the new tack and competition changes, using the Saddler tack has made a lot more of my "rescued" foundations get their wins a lot faster. (Rescued as in, I got them after improper games and training). Also, the GP gains I find keep on increasing with foundation foals. I just had my first foundation x foundation foal that will have a GP of over 357 after games!

Woohoo! Sahara now has 10 wins! Not much compared to the skillers, but for a foundation it's pretty good. I might use my newly won Golden Spurs on him too!

I remember breeding NIB arabians back when I started the game, the foals after games would all be 352.something, now they're solid 356's! It'll be frustrating if/when it changes again, though, as old foals/lines won't be as high in GP.

My attempt at keeping all of my generations separate and NIB was ordering a family tree program. It won't arrive for a while, but I think it will be very helpful.

I have (yet another) question.

When I'm buying foundies, is it important to make sure that they haven't been bred already, and if they have, to keep those horses from breeding? or does it not matter?

It won't matter as long as you never breed with them or any of their off-spring.

It never bothered me - if you want the only offpring of your foundies to be NIB then you may want to get unbred stock only, but it won't affect your own lines (and presumably you'll have an affix for your NIB foals so it'll be clear which of the offpring was bred as part of a NIB project).

With foundies, the only thing I avoid are horses with most/all of their training complete and no comp wins, especially if they are upwards of 12 years old. In my experience, although it is possible to get the comp wins on them it presents too much of a difficulty and there's risk of the horse (if it's not immortal) getting to 25 without reaching 100 BLUP.

I immortalize my foundies that have the highest gp (351.20) which is pretty much all of them. That is the only thing I look for in foundies is their gp's.

I have a thoroughbred foundy for sale. Thought I was going to be a NIB breeder but decided against it.
