[Info] NIB Horses
But, I'm a bit at a loss in figuring out how many horses I will need as a good foundation herd? I believe the answer to this is "yes." But in all seriousness it depends on how large of a project you want. Twinjodi has the numbers listed in her ec forum for the generational pyramid - that can help you see what you'll need for how many generations you are aiming for. As to the organisation, some go for spreadsheets, some for naming systems, some for both. We also have a NIB discord if you or anyone else cares to join us for moral support and advice

Hello! <3 I am still fairly new to Howrse and have a question that I just can’t figure out concerning NIB. I have to offspring from Gaia and Ouranos, would I be able to breed them because Gaia and Ouranos are exceptions? Are their offspring considered “foundies”? Any tips/advice is welcome and appreciated <3

So a foundation is any horse that has Gaia and Ouranos as its parents. These horses when bred together give you 1st generation NIB foals.
Gaia/Ouranos - These are the magical horses in which all horses start from on Howrse. They are considered to be the creators. Foundations - These horses are the direct offspring of Ouranos and Gaia. Being so, they would not be considered related BECAUSE of that. By default that's just how all horses created dam/sire are listed as. If it helps, imagine seeing nothing as their parents. They are the start of their own lines. 1st Generations - These horses are bred when pairing two foundation horses together. Their grandparents are Ouranos and Gaia.

A lot of us enjoy the challenge of it! Try to get as many foundations as you think you'll want for your project. As sleepy said there is a generational pyramid in my forum and our discord. This can sometimes be a challenge as there isn't a "foundation" search option. Right now I believe the pastry foals and the new foundations are still under 8000. So when searching I go Breed, GP under 8000, and purebred. Unfortunately from there, unless they are an event released breed in which they had a pretty set GP (((( like my french trotters, their GP release during the event was 4110, 4116, 4122, and 4128. Kerry Bogs were 3655 I believe, and so on and so forth. If you are interested in a breed that DID have a breed release during an event, an older player is awesome in that they will usually have some of the breed and can give you a reference point for their GP during that event which can narrow down your search more. ))) If it's not a breed that was released during an event OR you're looking for any and all GP foundations you can get, from there it's just a game the time consuming challenge of searching each horse for those needles in a haystack.

As an alternative for foundations that does come with risks as it poses the threat of your ancestors disappearing, uni fails are a good spot to look at too, or even contacting other breeders to see if they might breed you some 1st Generation foals from their foundations. NIB (and collectors) can/are VERY protective of their OG horses so will never sell you theirs, but can sometimes be more lenient with their RGs if they are not involved in their projects and a lot are happy to breed you first gens from their herd.

If anyone is in need of a German Saddle Horse foundation, snagged one from auction earlier today.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact any of us or post your questions here and one, or more of us will get back to you. In regards to foundation horses, are you looking for the original foundations (GPs in the 350's) or the rolling GP foundations (whose GPs will be much higher), so we can give you better advice? Glad to have you with us!

Welcome to those of you that are new! Just wanted to share a few things that the NIB community have been actively working on off the Howrse site. The Discord channel is a great place to get help easily with fills, as well as just fun discussion. The Breeder's List and Project List helps those of us find fellow breeders as well as homes for foundations that may otherwise be collecting more dust than we like to see! By all meams, these are voluntary and not required by any means. Just helpful information!
Links for the Community International Discord Link By the Breed Breeder's List NIB Breeder Projects Please feel free to message myself (Twinjodi), lbenedict15, or sleepingrose if you'd like anything added, edited, etc on either list!

Hello! I managed to grab up a foundation Finnish filly out of direct sales. Happy to send it on to a dedicated Finnish breeder at a reasonable price. I'll continue to work with her as she ages until a NIBer reaches out.
|
Shisei breeds them as do a few others!

Hello all! Hope everyone is progressing with their projects! Keep up all the hard work!
Been nicely progressing my herds lately. Kind of jumping around from herd to herd, keeping everything moving even if just a little bit. Even just chipping away I am seeing some big jumps in some herds. Certainly feels good to be getting some work done!
|
I am still trying to organise and sort my hoard out. Slowly getting there. I can't wait to get back to my main NIB lines and start to pull them up a bit.
|
RL is keeping me so darn busy lately I want to scream
I'm still thinking about all my lovelies - I hope that counts until RL gives me a break
|
Just wanted to drop in and say that I do NOT have a problem with hoarding Morgan foundies. Do not listen to the 71 horses and 2 unicorns. Gee, is it that many?!

I have some various foundies I'd be willing to sell to a dedicated NIB breeder. If anyone's interested, just let me know!
Also, I was wondering if horses with disappeared parents count as NIB, since there's no way of knowing unless you bred it yourself?

Also, I was wondering if horses with disappeared parents count as NIB, since there's no way of knowing unless you bred it yourself? Generally, most of us who maintain NIB lines don't accept horses with missing ancestors as there is no way to prove they are NIB. It tends to be one of the reasons why NIBing is so expensive, we have to keep all the ones that we use.
|
How do you guys go with disappeared horses? Does that count if the horse is NIB since then? Cheers What some NIB breeders do is take a screen shot of the horse that has "disappeared". Also record the horse's ID number in the screen shot to verify the horse existed.

Apologies if this post is misplaced here or been done before, but since I've returned to howrse I've been resolute in trying my hand at making my own NIB line (breed of choice German Saddle Horses) But, I'm a bit at a loss in figuring out how many horses I will need as a good foundation herd? And was curious if more knowledgeable NIB breeders have any tips on how to organize who's related to who. Spreadsheets, etc. <3 Feel free to PM me if you feel this would clog the thread <3 That would depend on how far out you want the generations to go. Some do four, five, or six generations out; some take it further. I think Twinjodi has that information in her forum or on discord.
|
I’ve taken a screen shot of all my ‘base’ pairs family trees and saved them in files to my computer, and I’m working in groups of 32 pairs of horses per group. I’m spending more time on my NIB GSH projects than anything else now!

Just a reminder for more seasoned NIBers, as well as informing the newer ones, Yankee Lady had to give up her TESF Stallions Original Foundations due to health reasons. I took over 121 of them. If anyone needs a cover from a foundation stallion, you're welcome to check out these stallions in the Foundation Breeds farm. Scroll down to TESF Stallions Original Found. You'll find pony and horse breeds there.
I don't know who took responsibility of other breeds. I think, Storms Ransome took on the foundation Appaloosas. Someone please correct me if this is incorrect. I also have foundation breeds that aren't listed in that breeding farm in other farms. Can't find what you need, shoot me a pm and I'll help you find them. btw I'm always looking for black foundation Arabians. Just let me know and we'll work out a deal.
