HellOw,
It's that time of the year!
The
Advent Calendar
starts on
December 1s
t!
Open the windows everyday for surprises. You can get divines on Saturdays and on Christmas day!
If you miss a day, you’ll be able to open that window by paying Equus. The amount of Equus will increase every time you open a window late.
After you open a Calendar window, come share with us the gifts that you receive!
Happy Holidays!
The Howrse Team

black and white ear bonnet!
I do wish they would implement a more visible border around the right day - I know there's that snowflake animation when you hover over it but that doesn't help when I'm squinting at all the numbers
all i want for christmas next year is a pretty thick gold border around the window being opened - please please please?

Would be so helpful as I always have to look three times on my ipad before I spot it, I never play on pc in the morning before work so I cant hover over it with a mouse

It makes me sad to see this topic is like almost each year: a build-up of negative reactions and complaining about 'useless' items we get.
You can also NOT play the Advent Calendar, you know? Nobody forces you.
What if Howrse put BMI in the Calendar. My guess is the complaining would be the same, because that is also what I see in each event: prizes are 'lackluster', 'not worth playing' and so on.
Well then, DON'T PLAY! Again, nobody is tightening thumbscrews on you if you don't.
Besides that, each player has their own strategy and goals. What is useless for one, can be of value to the other. How would Howrse do it right for everyone? That would be impossible because there will always be a reason to complain for someone.
Something that is worthless to someone can be valuable to another. Even poo is useful if you have enough Plant divines.
They could also stop doing the Calendar because no one likes it anyway. I can see the comments already! I can imagine that at some point they will stop doing it, because there is no fun in coming up with something nice for such a bunch of ungrateful critics.
Well, I'd be sad because I like it. Whatever is in it.
It's a GIFT. Not a RIGHT.
It's just what an Advent Calendar is about: little gifts, in the days towards Christmas. There are also bigger prizes in it and even chances to get a divine. My guess is that chance is why people keep playing although they don't like stuffed unicorn companions and ranking points.
That's fine, but then please just take the smaller prizes, use them or sell them or let them be, but STOP the constant complaining and don't take other people's Christmas mood away by being so negative over everything.
I'm sometimes really sick of this constant negativity.
Can you all still see the joy in life? And in the game? It IS just a game after all, you know?
That's it for my rant. Do with it what you will.
And Merry Christmas to everybody

Meeki, with all due respect comments like yours pop up just as frequently and I find them to be a little more negative than the ones complaining. You can ignore the negative posters too. They’re just personal opinions, anyway. It’s fair to be bored of the advent calendar just as it’s fair to appreciate it. The point of this thread is to discuss the event, and that’s what the other posters are doing as well as you and I. Personally, I think howrse can be rather clueless on how they do prizes in any event, and advent calendar is no exception. Players should be free to voice their opinions on that, especially when they’re still being respectful about it. It’d be boring if we all had the same opinion.

For this event I think people had a point with the 500 overall ranking points one lol. That's genuinely not useful for almost any players, I agree.
It is completely natural for people to feel slighted, especially on divine days where some might get a divine. I mean, I'm a bit annoyed when I COULD get a nice, new, shiny divine but instead I get *drum roll*
˜”*°•.˜”*°• p̾o̾o̾ •°*”˜.•°*”˜
The calendar has always been like this and there will always be positive and negative comments on it. The holidays are for coming together and enjoying things, yes, and Howrse always has amazing Christmas events where getting free divines is possible, and there are TONS of good BMIs. That being said, I do think there's ways they could improve the calendar, especially on divine days. Give everyone a golden apple, or horn or plenty, or something. Something that takes off the edge of seeing people get the divine. Maybe a TC, or GF... something that COULD get you a divine, if you get lucky.
Seeing as the Christmas events always give us good stuff, I don't think the calendar should be expected to give us anything special, but the prizes could definitely be improved, because right now Howrse is making their 'appreciation' to their players feel like nothing but manure and flax. Negativity is understandable and this thread is for feedback besides sharing what you get, of course.

I love all my free stuff. Color tack always comes in handy for me. Any flax recieved is one less field I have to grow. Manue will be devoured by my Plant Divines, and an increase in general ranking makes my placing look prettier, if just for a little while. I am more than happy with any free items! I personally prefer giving rather than recieving, so this is just a nice little extra bonus for no effort.
Glad to have gotten some colorful tack so far! Look forward to all the little goodies along the way!

On the one hand, we all want to get something expensive and necessary. Always! And at the same time, it's worth remembering that this event is dedicated to Christmas.
We all gift our friends and colleagues small trinkets or very inexpensive things that can please, make laugh, or be a little bit useful to this person. Conditionally, when you receive colored clothes, a unicorn or another pet from calendar, you get cute socks, stuffed toy or a funny hat from your friend. This event is not about earning, getting benefits. It's gifts! The sacrament! If you are not interested in the received item, gift it to your guys or unfamiliar players, there are a lot of players in the game who will be happy even to AP. It's pleasant to receive "Thank you" and it's more valuable than any things received. Goodness flows back to you! If you strictly answer "No!" to this offer, then you still need this thing, it's easy
You don't have to pay in the calendar (if you don't skip days), you don't have to work, keep up with time and hurry, you don't even have to think! Nevertheless, you have a chance to get Divine three times..
--- Mehhh, soon there will be a tears wave about Secret Santa, where someone sent Nyx and received Lyre
---
Such holidays are always from the bottom of our hearts, they teach us to be kind to others and not expect anything in return. Remember that.

I personally like the spread of gifts in the Advent; usually it's the main event where you get BMI and things like that. The Advent's a bonus and it makes sense the prizes would be smaller. (And besides that, some of them are truly pretty good? I got 10,000 e today and that's actually a decent amount for an advent draw).
I guess I'm more into the surprise of it than trying to massively benefit my game. The only one I thought was a bit disappointing so far was the ranking points but that's just because it doesn't really do anything; I wasn't aware it could give newer players a jump, which was probably the intended purpose.

Always fun to have a new prize square to collect daily. I've always liked this event.
It reminds me of the little December advent calendars my Mum would buy us as children. Each day we'd wait with great enthusiasm to open the flap to reveal a small chocolate treat. Lovely memories!

I am not a big fan of the advent calendar. I guess it is because I have never had the ability to get a grand prize of a divine in the game. I kind of wish that you were guaranteed one divine per calendar. I know some of you may not be a fan of this, but it would bring down the negative comments a bit. At least everyone will get something good during the event. Yeah, I like getting free items as the next person. But I know my opinion does not matter much, and that it is not a popular thought. But I just want something good out of this event for everyone.

I personally don't see the point in complaining about the calendar, as it's all free at the end of the day as long as you don't miss days. It takes 5-10 seconds per day, that shouldn't result in some kind of big prize, as there is hardly any effort involved. It also isn't like this replaces the normal promos, it's a little extra thing that just runs alongside the rest of the game. While it would be nice if divine days had a nice prize for everyone, I don't expect it to end up being the case.

Yeah I’m a big time complainer about lots of things in general but I still can’t find much to complain about here. Nothing crazy but I still got some elf polo wraps which I’m excited about! I am salty about the 500 general ranking points lol but I didn’t lose anything trying to get them so I’m content
I won’t say no to some freebies!

Does leaving advent calendar days unopened for the whole week and then opening them on Saturdays give you a higher chance of getting a divine horse? Just curious if someone has done it this way?

Yes, I get that, and that is why I'm here too: to discuss the event. But instead, reading it you get an overload of negativity. Maybe it's in the wording! It sounds different when someone says this is not their favourite event because of prizes they don't like or prizes that are not useful, than when someone says they 'hate' this event, if you see what I mean
The message is still the same. But the wording makes it a lot different.
I usually avoid these topics just because of that. Not far from now, Secret Santa will start. And I can already feel the comments coming: Boohoo I put in a Nyx Pack and instead I got a 2** saddle.... Forgetting it is about giving something from the heart and receiving something else with grace. The Christmas spirit. Not about who got the best gift or about balancing your gift against someone else's.
(And forgetting some smaller gifts come from starting players who hardly have anything but still GIVE it.)
I don't know why I started reading here yesterday, maybe because I hoped for things a bit more positive. Like: Oh I got a pink saddle cloth, that's perfect for my objective today. Or questions about what the ranking points mean exactly. A bit of LAUGH and HUMOR.
I think I miss the just simply being satisfied with what you get. It's free.
And there's kids reading here too, I guess. Can't we give at least them the example of that?
For example: I've been bored with the Olympus Ascent for a while, but if I am I just avoid it. I still don't like it but I'd like to get Feliz Navidad on the other server, so I play it again now. But I'm not going to take away someone else's fun in that with a rant. Others love it. I don't want to spoil it for them. See what I mean?
And yes there is room for improvement, like jsniper says. There always is. But read that post, it's written with humor and understanding, not with pure negativity.
@lbenedict15 @Soarer @Crookedstar915 @Oathkeeper @Sashtato
You all word it exactly as what I tried to say (and I said it in a bit more negative way I'm afraid... Sorry for that, I guess I was a bit grumpy when I wrote my post LOL)
@carlaz84 Exactly! That was a lot of fun. With a VERY small gift

As far as I know: no.
You just have to open the Saturday windows on the exact same day, to have a chance for the divine.
Besides that: the price increases with every window that is opened late.

I don't hate this "event", I don't "love" it, I literally have no opinion towards it xd
Since I never won any divine from it, it's just useless for me, cause the most useful prize I got was 3 AP which I can easily get from UFOs
It's not bad, not good, it just... Exists. It's here xd

2 issues with this promo
-MINOR-get rid of the stupid points for overall ranking. sorry that is NOT a prize. got it yesterday. you know how affective it was. i went DOWN 2 spots
-MAJOR-everyone on divine days should get BETTER prizes. not everyone should get a divine. but everyone should get better. really stinks to get polo wraps or useless ranking points when people are getting divines.

Back in the early days (early 2010s), I think we did get higher value BM items from the Calendar on some days. But events were much less common than they are now, so items won weren't just thrown on a player's pile like they are now.
If we weren't swimming in items from divines, exchanges, and events, and I had to use passes to buy items from the Black Market ( I genuinely can't remember the last time I did that, it's been ages), I'd expect better items in the Calendar, but that's not the case, so I'm fine with the smaller items.
The poor ranking points need some love though
One of my main goals the last couple of years has been to increase my Score, so I'll take all the easy points I can get
