Not being able to reuse tack items? That's terrible! It's not like making a lot of money in this game is easy for the average player anymore! I don't want to spend thousands on a horse that won't ever make that back on the market.

I can totally understand why your all taking about the coats right now. Some make me cringe and a few I like.

How ever tack change.... please read the spoiler and post yout thoughts on this. It's important. Please use spoilers as this change is still a work in progress.

As some of you may know the tack feature is currently being tested, but there are some issues.

Currently we cannot reuse any tack items.
If we change skills, all tack items are removed and lost. They do not get added to your inventory.
If you decide to switch a tack item for another, the first item is lost and will NOT be added to your inventory.

What this basically means is that ALL items can only be used once.
Once it is put on a horse, it stays for good. You cannot swap any items without loosing the previous tack.

This will have a major impact on the game. It will become very expensive to train a horse now.

Assuming that the prices per item are set (prices are from the test site), it will cost the average player quite a lot to tack up a horse, even if their using low star blankets, polo wraps and bonnets.

Classic comper
3 star bridel - 4.701
3 star saddle - 4.202
1 star blanket - 500
1 star polo wrap - 500
1 star bonnet - 500

total - 10.403e

Western comper
3 star bridel - 4.622
3 star saddel - 4.685
1 star blanket - 500
1 star polo wrap - 500
1 star bonnet - 500

total - 10.807e

If we then switch specialty we will have to buy another saddle and bridle.

We have been waiting for a reply to the above. But the test ends April 15th and we still do not have a reply from the admins.
I'm getting increasingly worried that Howrse will go ahead and make all tack items non reusable. I have posted my worries there, and several have posted that items should be reusable, but so far the post I have created there has just been labeled as a Suggestion - that in my book indicated that it may be changed in the future, but not on the tack feature they plan to implement to the game.

That's waaaaaay expensive! I hope they adjust this a little...some of the newer player might not have that kind of money.

If the point of these changes is to make the game more realistic....I don't see where this fits in. Real life tack is interchangeable ( to some degree). I could take my mare out on a trail ride in Western gear, and switch to English later for, say, jumping.

So if they do cop the *we are making the game more realistic* argument...they will have to do better. It doesn't hold up.

Yep it's going to become very expensive to blup if this happens.
If we then decide to use cheap gear it will be close to impossible to get 20 wins on a normal non skiller blup.

I do not like the way some of the breeds look now. they turn from pretty and cute horses into skeletons with tight necks and terribly thin front legs. default smiley :@default smiley :'( i can't look at my horses now!

Me too - even if someone does have lots of money, they don't want to be spending tens of thousands tacking up ONE horse!

Again, I agree...

I can just imagine a low skilled/low GP horse selling for thousands just because it has tack... It's a scary thought.

Indeed it does not make sense.
Imagine having to go buy new tack every time you want to go horseback riding. It's crazy.

To be fair, you have used the high quality tack in that calculation, that's not the minimum players might need to spend on tacking up.
If you use an EC with a saddler to provide the saddle and bridle then the minimum you need in order too enter a horse in competitions is 500e for the saddle cloth.

I can kind of understand why Howrse would do something like this - it makes tack more valuable and gives ECs more incentive to have a saddler employed. Right now we can get away with reusing the same piece of tack over and over while blupping for instance - there's no need to buy more than one of each item if we don't want to.

Being able to remove a Made-to-measure saddle from one horse and placing it on another doesn't really make sense either though.

I'd be curious to know what happens when a horses specialty is switched with these new changes in place... I can see that being an issue, particularly for the VIP perk that allows us to change a horses specialty at any time - now it comes with the cost of potentially losing valuable tack and makes it a lot less of a 'perk' default smiley :s

I like them, my only real constructive criticism is that I just think that the manes and tails need more shading or something, to me they look like dull blobs of color on their necksdefault smiley 8-)

default smiley (l) I love the Gypsy Vanners! Love the extra mane!

I'm so glad I breed these guys...
