The new Canadian coats are very nice. I like them a lot better than the old ones. But I will be sad when they change all my beautiful GV's. I think if they do give the ability to change the mane then the GV's will look much better because that's the ones thing that makes they look really strange.

well there isnt and wasnt any polls.

There was a poll... We got to vote if we liked the current coats or the last parade coats better, and also on that poll was a question "Would you like to be able to see tack on your horse, just like in the horse parade?"
By Retired breeder, 28th March 2014 17:50:33
Can someone explain the new tack to me??

Is there a place where I can see all the old coats of KWPN? Because I'm literally crying that my favorite horse is gone. Because they look like a new horse and not the one I loved.
I guess beauty really is in the eye of the beholder... I personally think the new coats are really pretty. I was never fond of the way KWPN's and the others like them looked before. They always looked kinda bleh. But now I actually think they look good and not so derpy, and so do the rest of the coats I've seen.

Some see this as a useless change, and yes, it is all for aesthetics, but did you forget that the coats also changed many years ago, too? Did people whine and complain and moan back then? Probably, but I'm guessing everyone got over it... Sites change things and evolve over time. That's what websites do. If you don't like the way the site is working, stop playing. Either that, or just get used to it. Complaining and ranting doesn't do anything... just saying. default smiley :)

I'll return to lurking in the shadows now... default smiley (m)

I really like those new coats, especially friesians, KWPN and knabstrupper (can't spell it right).. but I don't really get what it is that Big Challenge : P

I am NOT a fan of the new Purebred Spanish Horse and Canadian Horse coats. I really liked the old ones.

They're gonna change the GVs?! D: I sure hope not. GVs are one of my favorites, I love their current coats!

I was breeding gypsy vanners and barbs, but now that they are changing the coats, I'll have to choose some other breed :/ I really can't stand how they look now. Especially the gv's are weird.

Oh well, I think the new shetland coats are ok default smiley :)

I do not like:

Mustang
Friesan
Appaloosa, Argentinean Criollo, Paint Horse, Quarter Horse
Hackney, Morgan, Standardbred, Tennessee Walker

I dont think that should change, people like them as they are.
By Retired breeder, 28th March 2014 18:43:59
I don't like Shetlands/GVs but the rest are ok. I really like Tennessee Walkers! So much more realistic!

I really don't like the Shetland,Gypsy,Friesian or the Quarter Horse ones!

Shetland
They're not as cute and Shetlandy than the old one

Gypsy
Where's the beautiful feather?!

Friesian
Neck is too cresty-looks more like a Percheron than a Friesian and more feather is needed!

Quarter Horse
Strange neck shape and confirmation doesn't really match the breed

Sorry if this offended anyone but I am entitled to my opinionsdefault smiley (y)

Yes! They are more like the actual breed now. I really like that. It's also nice that they will have their own unique image as a result, rather than sharing their coat with the Morgans and Hackneys etc.

Not that I won't miss the old coat though.

I never owned KWPN/Irish (ok, I did, but loooong time ago)

but I really enjoy their new coats default smiley ;)
They have few weird things about them, but are pretty default smiley ;)

New PSH is a different story.
I own quite a few of them, pretty much all without a GA and... don't get me wrong. I LIKE new coats, and yeah, miss the old ones.
But...

Even I, as a pretty much amateur when it comes to drawing can see few really weird things about them. Like too small head. Weird neck muscles? Or the one that's not really easily noticed, but well... weird angle of their rump.

I agree, howrse artist (looking at the style of art over a years I assume it's the one person.) learned a lot.

New coats are much better when it comes to anatomy, or shading... I agree (I don't like few of them, but really... they're good, I just like old ones more default smiley xd).

And I don't really know how to put it. But howrse seem to trust their design artist a bit too much. x)

Also many coats have quite dull eyes...

I was wondering what it was that seemed strange in relation to some of their faces - I think that's what my problem is! Apart from that, I think the new coats aren't that bad really; it's more the fact that we are losing the current graphics and I am not going to be able to recognise my little Welshies after their graphics change.

With these new graphics, each horse consists of five pieces: body, mane and tail, first wing, second wing, and unicorn horn. I understand why the wings and unicorn horn would be separate pieces. It would make potions and other promos that offer rewards for removing horns and wings much easier. What I find most interesting is that the body is a separate piece from the mane and tail. Hmm... That makes sense when you consider adding and removing rubber bands, but it also presents another possibility. Now, this is just pure speculation based on no evidence other than snooping around the media files, but what if... What if Howrse were to introduce different mane and tail styles at some point in the future? Perhaps they aren't even considering it at this time at all. But the possibility is now wide open!

Wow, that's a good theory. I hope Howrse are considering doing that! default smiley (y)
It would be 'most excellent', in my opinion! default smiley (lol)

So are all the breeds coats being changed or just a few? I do like the new KWPN coat.

The only thing that bothers me however is the amount of anatomy flaws I have noticed. As an artist who does draw horses it makes me feel a bit annoyed that there are so many. If there were just one or two I wouldn't mind so much as it does happen but an anatomy flaw in about every coat is a problem.

Some of them are very nice though.

I don't know if somebody has said this already, and I'm not really interested in going through 154 pages of comments to find out, so my apologies if this has already been stated. default smiley :p

So I know there's a lot of controversy over the new coats. Like the rest of you, I like some, and I dislike some. Some are nice, like the new Irish Hunter coats, but others look straight up like aliens. Like the mustangs.. That conformation is all over the place.default smiley (lol)

But anyways, you know how we're allowed to create golden apple coats?
Well maybe, every once in a while, when the staff decides to change up the base horse coats, they can open it up to some players to design. I know some incredibly talented players on here, and I think it would make everyone happier.
That way, we can vote on the new base coats, and there would be options to choose from for each breed.
It would be just like voting on GA coats.

I could go into more detail on how it would work, but I won't, unless asked to do so. default smiley ;)

If you read all of that. A++ for you! default smiley :-))

The GV's look stupid and so do the Friesian's they look so much more realistic now than the way they might look. Don't even get me started on the Mustangs just no! They look fat! And the QH's and paints etc don't look as good either! Howrse don't change these breeds
By Retired breeder, 28th March 2014 19:13:43
What is "The Big Challenge"?

Check out howrse blog on the bottom of howrse page default smiley ;)

As for Friesians... apart from stange greyness of coat they seem more realistic then previous ones - check their neck angle default smiley xd

But still... new coats do HAVE some flaws that could be easily fixed at the designing stage. But now? With new coats coming in?

I don't really believe any changes will be made.

Interesting theory. I like it. (And, I must say, well written.)
