We're going to have to pay passes to get workers!?

You can still buy these items in the Sales - Crafting is just another way to get them. As I explained in an earlier post (see below):

Crafting tends to be slower - but cheaper
Buying is a lot faster - but tends to be more expensive.

The spoiler below shows an example of what I mean:

Click to display
We'll use the Water Trough for this example:

At present time - a single Water Trough is selling for 30,238e in the Store

So for that price, I have a trough instantly that I can use in a box (more expensive, but faster)

Likewise, every Center will be given a Small Workshop with this change. A small workshop can craft 1 Water Trough in a period of 2 days, 10 hours. *note the time period to craft items is the same regardless of amount and workshop size

To do so, you need 1,500 Iron in your inventory.

If your center is in the Mountains - you'll have this resource brought to you by missions (saving you money), likewise - you can also buy Iron in the store (Beach and Forest Centers will need to do this).

Iron sells for 10e a unit

Since we need 1,500 units - this is a price of 15,000e.

Already - compared to buying one at the store, we've saved about half the cost (and even more was saved for a Mountain center that doesn't need to buy as much), but of course - the downfall is that it will take a lot longer for us to get the Trough.

To sum it up:

If you want to have items quickly - you'll have to pay more
If you want to pay less - you'll need to wait for your items

*Think of it like ordering something online - you can pay an extra $10 for overnight shipping, or you can pay $3 and receive it sometime within the next 3 to 5 days.

Of course, you could always do a little bit of both (buy Mashes from the store, but have things like Saddles be crafted)

Not to mention 11 passes is a lot if you can't actually buy passes. That is the amount we can get every month with the reserve pass and 10 pass horses. I agree this choice is nothing short of greed.

Just remember - Employees are *Optional* and are more of a bonus than anything.

Will they help some centers? Yes.
Are they needed for a successful center? No.

As such - if you don't want them (as they are not needed) - don't spend your money on them.

I know I have no intention of using them outside of the ones I might win by the UFOs when these changes go live.

And yet it is simply a massive kick in the face. Howrse removed them just to bring them back at a more expensive cost? Optional or not it is just greedy on their part. I've happily stood up for the fact Howrse has to make money but even I feel this is greedy.
Just curious on something;

What if employees were called Bonuses - something different (as aside from the price, I feel a lot of complaints actually comes from the name as some players remember that as an Employee - they earned money, but now have to pay money for Employees)

For example:
*Quoted from the Preprod topic - with Employee replaced with Bonus:

Click to display
The Bonuses are available under the form of renewable one month contracts for one pass or ten diamonds.

There are 11 different Bonuses, they all have different ways of impacting your EC.
They can improve the crop yields or reduce costs.

~

Does this sound as bad? To me, with teh word BOnus used instead - it's no different than a player spending a Pass to buy a Golden Apple to get the comp. bonus it gives the horse.

Again, I am more curious than anything.

do you have to have an employees ?

Brought back with them being optional for a bonus with an entirely different purpose. You can have 1, 11 or none and your EC is fully functional.

ECs were horrid when you -needed- a full house of employees.

Nope - again, they are 100% Optional

Are they removing the drop-down option completely, and replacing all with bubbles? (for food/training etc.)

It seems to be that way, but there is some protesting and diskussion going on and it has been brought to the attention of the team that people want their drop-down menu to stay.
Gwydia - default smiley (lol) I'm one of those people. Never liked the bubbles. Drop-down for me all the way default smiley ;)

I think that that might upset people even more. At least with the employees it feels like Owlient is not trying to hide that they removed the player employees for exactly the purpose of reintroducing these new npc employees. If they called them differently, people might start accusing Owlient that they are trying to hide the fact and that they're not as simple as not to notice this.

One thing I am definitely going to miss, is the extra health benefit I got from putting sick horses in the meadow or the box - since I can't do anything else with them without messing up their skill gain.
And of course the 'Huh, I am 0.5% energy points short for what I want to do - quick horsie, go into the box for a short while to recuperate!'-effect.
I don't blame the Howrse team for these horrid changes. I blame Ubisoft. The employees are just doing what Ubisoft says.

Shorah - I would still be upset. I will not believe until I see it, that 60, +12 ECs will not be impacted by this.

While I have a 60 EC, I'll let the thing crash and burn before I am forced into paying 11 passes/month for "employees". If they were permanent, I would probably do it with a whole lot of complaining. But every month? 11 passes every single month? Yeah, not happening.

I agree 1000% on this and if I get the odd one free then great, otherwise I just don't need them. Be nice if they will be in various promos ( like the lottery and would be a welcomed change), otherwise I will save my passes for things I really need.

To me, it still sounds as bad because when you put a GA on a horse, you don't have to continue paying for it. You have the bonus on that horse permanently. It wouldn't be bad if it were set up that way... where you can "buy" employees, but this whole month-long contract thing sounds almost like having a separate VIP account just for an EC, only it would be even more expensive than the standard VIP account.
I agree, if they were 1 pass for 6 months, I would less annoyed and more apt to purchase

You can only build/buy new ones. And destroy old ones.

Questiondefault smiley 8-)!! If a mission done by a horse in board at your ec gives you material needed (wood iron sand) does it have to be *other* players horses. My ec is just for my horses, so will I still get material from missions I do with them?

And- do the missions give skill points like lessons and rides do?

It sounds so much better (and a whole lot less greedy) as bonus.
