The Black Pearl



You need at least 60 days of seniority and 5 karma points to use the Black Pearl.

We want to clarify a few points regarding the proposals for the Creation Space.


Golden Apple


Using shadows:

You can use shadowing, but please keep it very light so that the images will fit with most backgrounds.


Cut out your edges more:

When we place the coats on a dark background, in some cases, there are stray light colored pixels around the drawing. This makes it impossible to use on a dark background.
Take a look at your coat on a white and on a black background, to get rid of any leftover smudges or pixels. Also, look a little further away at just the outline. Often, the coats have a smudge around the corners or along the border of the image.


Use the smudge or blur tool sparingly:

It's a pity to see a coat that has been worked on and then filtered with a blur filter, and it comes out all smudgy. It's also a pity to see a coat with smudge marks on one side and not the other.


Be careful when reformatting an image:

Sometimes we get drawings of "sausage horses" because the file has been altered, and the horse has been squashed or pulled in another direction. Also, avoid making your resolution too low and giving the picture a pixel art look.



Helios' Ray


Using brushes is allowed:

They can be used, but not in excess.
Seeing the same tree used four times in different backgrounds is starting to feel a bit repetitive, and it's also unfair. Since the aim of the Creation Space is to create things with your own hands, not to make photo manipulations. The same thing goes for photos.


Painting, blurring or smudging landscape pictures:

This is prohibited, and going forward, we may permanently ban players from the Creation Space for this.


Check the perspectives:

Please remember that the horse needs something to stand on. It's rather unusual to see a picture of a beautiful pond in the background while the horse appears to be floating in the middle of it.

The same goes for outer space, clouds, etc. The background should be usable for everyone, not just the Pegasus. Also, make sure the horses won't look like giants in the middle of a forest when you draw trees or other items.



Rules


Plagiarism is forbidden:

Plagiarism is taking someone else's work and passing it off as your own.
Respect the author's rights: don't steal images off the Internet; don't trace photos; don't use the basis of someone else if they have not given their authorization, preferably publicly.

You can draw inspiration from a style, a movement, or a coat without merely copying it. Use your imagination to express your unique personality and create something original.


Here's a quick recap of the things NOT to do in the Creation Space:

➞ Using 100% traced photos as a base for your work.
➞ Submitting AI-generated creations.
➞ Buying or selling a commission (purchased artwork).
➞ Drawing fanart (we don't ban players right away, but it could get us into trouble since we're monetizing it).

Players who submit an artwork not created by themselves, AI-generated, or plagiarized will be permanently banned from using the Black Pearl.

All the other rules still apply. Players who do not follow the rules are exposed to sanctions.

Hi! Um I wasn't sure where to ask this but I'm pretty sure I've been seeing a few AI landscapes in the black pearl voting, and was wondering if that's allowed? Personally I'm really not a fan of AI generated art since it is technically plagiarism.

The rules were updated for the creation space that AI art is not permitted so feel free to report.

So I had a question, I'm making a creation on MyPaint and there is a brush that produces short grass. Would for that reason the painting be disqualified immediately if submitted?

Ok, it’s just my follow up question is if specific kinds of brushes aren’t allowed but if that isn’t the case, I’ll make use of the brush.

Please, I'm begging you guys, it's not working for me and I really don't know how to deal with this ridiculousness! I've tried what I could and looked at directions from previous posts but it's simply not happening for me and I'm trying not to lose my mind.

You can use any program. Art just needs to be original OR use FREE TO USE linework.

No AI or 3D images. No pictures either.

Hi everyone,

I made a drawing on my phone but i didnt use the template. I tried to get the template on the horse with paint on my laptop but it didnt work and i cant submit. Are there any other players who draw on their phones or ipads and have tips how i can get the drawing on the template the right way? (I wasnt changeing the template, just putting the drawing on there and save it as same format and type and Howrse still says its wrong template)

Starbafs Karma is what shows your reputation on the game, losing karma means can lose access to certain game functions. You already have max karma points it is 10 . And You can win passes yes.

Since I don't want to break the rules to submit a silly picture I drew I'll spend my well earned passes somewhere else. I hate this new rule. 10 karma would be fair.

Very late reply but you don't need to break the rules. 5 is the minimum. It's "you need AT LEAST 5 karma" not "you must be a bit of a rule-breaker because absolute goody two-shoes don't get to submit coats".

Are you allowed to draw your creations on paper then scan them? I heard something about Photoshop and Gimp only being allowed. I might be wrong but please tell me if this is allowed.

Going to buy the Black Pearl.

Yep! Photoshop and gimp are just suggested sites to make the background invisible. Drawings done on other sites as well as paper drawn prices are allowed.

How is everyone resizing their images? Every time I try to resize to submission size, everything becomes ridiculously pixelated. If I try to draw on a smaller canvas from the get go, I lose a ton of detail. Any tips?

Anyone got any tips on how to sharpen up the image used for the golden coats, mine always end up looking so blurry. 400 x 400 always blurs my details and colors, its a bit disheartening.

I appreciate the reminder about perspective - as a “realistic fantasy” fan, I am quite bothered by beautiful backgrounds that don’t logically fit.
