First I want to say is that that I think the quality is definitely improved, as is the amazing shading.
But...
Mustangs were my favorite breed, but I had just barely started to breed them, and now I am thankful for that. I always loved their high pose, dramatic look, and regal neck, mane, and tail. They reminded me of Spirit (the movie).
But now...
They may be more realistic in some ways, but they seem to have lost the look of a mustang- they are very expressionless and blank-eyed. They lost their regal look and proud bearing and now seem slouched with their head hanging lazily instead of raised proudly. I work with some beautiful mustangs and I rarely see their necks hunched. Another loss is their beautiful mane, which is one of the parts of a drawing (that I have noticed) make a horse look like a horse.
I understand the difficulty of drawing horses as an artist myself, and certainly could not do even close as good a job as the howrse artists, but their anatomy also seems slightly... off in some places. The eyes seem to be set a bit too close to the top of the head, I think... It's hard to be sure. Also, their faces seem a bit thick to me; somewhat chubby yet very defined, which don't go well together a lot. It seems a bit stretched, and to me makes the whole picture feel squashed.
I'm not trying to be over critical, I just feel disappointed in the loss of spirit... They just don't feel alive. I took a fairly long hiatus from howrse, my second one. My first was after I spent months making the perfect Marwari overo (I think it was overo...) chestnut, and then the overo pattern was changed to a look I strongly disliked. I came back with a new account, seeing as I was gone so long that my original account was deleted due to lack of use, and had a fresh start. I don't know that I will return for good from my most recent hiatus now that I have seen my royal mustangs become lifeless. I might stay for the ponies, however, which have improved greatly and are beautiful. I'm happy for all of you who love the new mustangs, and I am sad that I cannot count myself among them.
So I just noticed that the hackneys haven't changed yet. I thought they looked like the standerdbreds and such. But no! They are still the same! Does anyone know what they will look like?

Does anyone know when the horse breeds that were just added, like the Highland Pony and Akhal-Teke will be available as unicorns?

This is exactly how I feel. I wish that the mustangs looked more lively. and it would be great if they had a mane. It would make them look more real. I have seen Mustangs in real life and they look more like the old ones. They have a fiery, more alive look.

I totally agree with this: they look sort of tired and tame, rather than regal and spirited like they usually are.

What im not entirely understanding is....when howrse adds a new breed of horse they don't add the most asked for or more known...they add something less known.

Is this an attempt to make less known breeds more known?

An example would be the new Highland breed, I had never heard of this breed before until it came to the game, where did it come from?

I noticed people have been asking for more draft breeds like the Clydesdale and Shire, since like v2 when the horses had really thin legs.

Im not complaining, because....who would complain about a new breed?default smiley (lol) Im just extremely curious on why the game does this.

I have been very supportive of these new coats. However the mustang is not attractive, at all. The face is not in the slightest alive, or shaped correctly. In my personal opinion, the face appears swollen and not correctly attached to the neck. The horse has no spirit or regality. Im very disappointed in the mustangs.

I think Howrse has pretty much added most of the most well known breeds to begin with; now they're expanding the game. Many of the new breeds are perhaps not the most commonly known horses, but that doesn't mean that they're not known at all and don't deserve their position in the game. Many devout horse lovers will recognize many if not all of the breeds on Howrse by name, and many others.

Draft horses like Clydesdales and Shires haven't been added because of the objectives of the game and the complications of BLUPing these heavy horses when they don't compete well in "traditional" competitions. Now there is talk of bringing draft horses in, but for an entirely different reason to the original objective of BLUPing, breeding, and raising the GP and skills of the horses.
