Nope. Not usually. Sometimes, on rare times.

okay im going to do my first costom soon, my question is should I sand it or anything that before I paint?
No! Don't sand it! If it's dark primer it or put white paint over it. Don't sand it as it might ruin the furry texture.

As jlmiller said, don't sand it so you don't lose the furry texture. If you're painting light on dark, definitely prime it. Dark on dark - maybe. Dark on light - probably not. Light on light - depends.

Definitely do not sand it!!!! Prime it!
By Retired breeder, 1st February 2015 01:42:32
First off, what does prime mean. And I will cross my fingers for you!

Paint primer. Like what you put on walls before you repaint it. You put that on the model. It's white.

And thanks

I'm also in love with the shetty family!! Love them... I saw most of the "new" horses... It's the Same original horse but with a different coat color... But I have the flaxen tennesse walker stallion default smiley :d
By Retired breeder, 1st February 2015 03:12:39
Yeah. I think he's the most famous Schleich horse, the flaxen chestnut walker. He's always wherever there's Schleich.
By Retired breeder, 1st February 2015 03:14:41
He was actually my first schleich... I thought he was a girl at first
By Retired breeder, 1st February 2015 03:17:22

I'd sand off the logos and such on the belly and in between the legs. Then use your primer. If you want the best texture, you have to do this before priming. If you do it after it won't have a good look to it. Also, use a knife cut/custom physical parts of the horse. (Arabian, dishing face, some breeds cut the tail slightly to get a "higher set" look, etc. I've seen some models where they crop the mane or something to give it a different look. Also, you can put limbs in hot water to adjust poses. I've seen multiple different ways to do this)

He's so pretty, and I was little

So I basically assumed

Pretty = girl
Not as pretty = boy

Annie, the hot water doesn't work as well on schleich as on breyers- its sooo much harder to reposition schleichs
