[UPDATED] Devs' Corner: November 2024
Love most of the team changes. Very useful and helpful. Only 2 issues I see are:
1. Teams must be created at least 10 days before rating day. This should be 30 days. 2. To prevent covering errors, these are now only viewed by the mares with the team affix. NO NO NO some of the best fillers are crossbred so they can see breed only comps but usually aren't capable of having comparable skills as the blup. Paying attention prevents covering errors. A few questions: If a horse's genetic potential is higher than that required for sales, you will not be able to remove the affix or sell it to other players unless it's a gelding. What if you leave the team? Are you forced to keep the affix? Are you still not able to sell the horse unless it's gelded?

I'd guess that's due to the safe haven being terrible, not because it wasn't in the same place as the other sales... I really don't like this change. You even placed it as the first option when selling a horse, I can imagine how many horses will be placed in the safe haven that wasn't meant to be put there.

Just noticed a huge issue. The ability to loan to a specific player is removed. This is incredibly unfair. I have the tears privilege and team mates have my permission to loan mares for tear breeding. I'm the only member in my time zone so they do it when I'm sleeping. Am I supposed to stay awake 24 hours in order for team members to take advantage???
Please please please give us back the option to loan to a specific player.

Just bought a horse for an objective and noticed that I have the option to remove the affix. But it's not a team horse.

I don't like it either. I complained on prepod that they should put the Safe Haven option last so players don't make a mistake. I hope everyone is really careful.

I don't like this option to remove an affix from a purchased horse. Will this mean those horses no longer appear in the breeders affix page?
I also agree that the option to sell to the safe haven being top in the sales tab is also a terrible idea and will lead to mistakes being made.

"Very few players have ever used the safe haven" maybe because it sucks?? Who wants to just give their horse away for way, way less money than you'd get selling it normally, and then have it just wither away uselessly? If you sell to another player they might turn that horse into a champion. If you give to the safe haven you're just throwing it away. There's zero reason to ever "sell" to the safe haven.

I've tried it out and it looks to me like the affix is not actually removed, even when you try to click the "..." and save, the horse still has the original affix. So hopefully the coding just got funky and puts the drop down box for every horse, no matter if you bred it or not, but affixes for purchased horses still work the same way?

I don't think the auto affix is working? Just birthed a top team horse and the foal page was exactly the same, still offered the drop down, and birthed without the affix. It's one feature I was looking forward to so hope that gets fixed

Also, I love the team cover update and definitely think team horse covers should only be shown for only the team horses. It makes sense and I'm glad I won't have to use search settings anymore to get around that.
What would be nice is finally adding a personal covers tab that we can send any of our own horses covers to rather than one by one reserving it to a mare by name

The safe haven change is going to lead to an awful lot of mistakes and support tickets.
If you want people to make more use of it and free up database space, just increase the amount paid by the safe haven. I can assure you it wasn't that hard to find, and the people who couldn't find it are exactly the ones who will make the mistake of selecting safe haven by accident when trying to sell.

I assume due to this other fix: When a foal is born from parents who already have a team affix, it will automatically receive the team affix if its genetic potential is higher than that required for sale. It's up to the team admin to choose the GP required. Considering nothing has yet been set for that team, anything can be sold. So it's weird to me if team horses aren't being auto-affixed just because sales is not at a number yet. But I guess that's a way people can prevent auto affixing if they wanted to I guess? Doesn't seem like something that should matter if it basically acts as "0." But at least that should clear up when team admins make those changes.

Not sure what to make of the team changes, in that I'm only on one team and it's mine and I'm the only member, so.... not sure the changes will really impact me much. But some of the changes sound like they will have a negative impact on how larger teams control/use their team horses, and make things unnecessarily difficult for them instead of being improvements.
As for the Safe Haven... It's nice that the horses who used to bring in 400e now bring in the 500e minimum of proper public sales, but having the Safe Haven as the first option was pointed out as being a bad idea on PreProd and clearly that was ignored. If few players really use the Safe Haven, it's because it offers such a poor price for the horses. As I type this, the cheapest horses in Directs are priced at 2999e. I doubt they'll sit in the sales for long at that figure. Even if some are UniFails they'll bring in a little more than the Safe Haven would offer, and if they're not, they'll bring in not much less than six times what the Safe Haven would give. It just makes better financial sense to put horses in the Directs, so placing "sale at the Safe Haven" as the first option kind of feels like a somewhat below-board way of trying to lead players, which is not supportable. On the up side, at least when one clicks the option, one still has to confirm the choice, so hopefully that will help at least some players to stop and scroll back up and click a more useful sales choice.

And no. Instead it's easier to mistakenly put a horse there. Normal horses in sales go for 2000, selling them to safe haven isn't popular NOT because it's inaccessible but because it's STUPID. It won't be any more popular now. The end.

Instead of worrying about putting SH on the list for sales, how about another team update where you can reserve more then 1 foal for your team at a time.....we have Isis lol sometimes we have more then 3! It's a pain having to stop and do it one by one when we have the multiple sales feature for public selling means.

I don't think some of the fixes are working. I just birthed a foal and he did NOT automatically receive the team affix. I was also able to put a foal well above the team minimum GP in direct sales.

I'm happy to report that we are working on making the Croesus' Fortune fully retroactive in our next update. The idea being that all horses equipped with it before the change will receive the 3 bonus items! Okay, it's the next update. So has it been fixed or did you sweep it under the carpet or straw? This is a huge slap-in-the-face for those of us who already had our Divines decked out.

I don't agree with the safe haven change either. The reason safe haven isn't used is because it doesn't do anything but essentially delete the horse from play. Who wants that? There are plenty enough horses in Safe Haven so I see no reason for Owlient to complain. Safe Haven is a LAST resort. Why do you think people wanted to be able to change their objectives? So we DIDNT have to put a horse in safe haven.
If you were to make a positive safe haven change, you have a round up of safe haven horses and auction/sell them once and awhile or have them actually age and interact instead of being "dead". People make enough sales mistakes without safe haven being placed right at the very top. At least move it to the bottom so people don't put valuable horses in safe haven by accident.

The Safe Haven is a feature to help remove horses from play, and clear the system. Their information gets deleted, which is why they aren't put back in play. Players choose to put them there, so they probably wouldn't want them sold back into game play either.
There definitely needs to be some changes to the payouts for placing horses there though. The amounts we get aren't enough of an incentive when we can sell them for a few thousand more in the sales.

Also I actually liked the way the safe haven was and I used it quite often. But now that it only gives you 500 equus per horse, I'm not planning on using it at all. So congrats, your remedy had the opposite effect.
