Did I miss something here?
I'm at ~ 5.4 years for the love horses in the direct sales and at almost 16 years for the one in the fleeces o.O

Meh. The passes will get spent eventually, and the time will pass anyway. Might as well choose to spend them on something that will benefit your game along the way. At least that's how I view it.

When deciding whether to try for a divine in luck items (or purchase in reserved sales) I always try and calculate how long it will take to break even. Typically I don't spend on horses that it would take more than 5 years, unless I want it for some other reason (like a Grail to help Arthur). I never spend if it will take 10 years or more, since I don't think I'll still be playing at that point, so what's the point?

Anyway, it's a good budgeting tip when trying to decide whether to go for a divine or not.

That's why I never buy divines in reserved sales, they are just sooooo not worth it! And most of divines are tbh, I only get what I can from events, ascent or on black friday sales

Like I am so not sure I will be playing this game in 5 years, I better spend those passes on smth I want nowdefault smiley xd

I did get them, but I definitely won't get multiple copies in the directs because it does take a while to pay off. It's a little less than 5 and a half years, by the way, not 6 and a half. They pay off in 65 months, but there's 12 months in a year not 10.

Usually it's a gamble anyways; sometimes they're released for a major discount on Black Friday or for free in an event like the one we have now, but if they're in luck items and you don't get lucky you'd actually have to spend *more*, so. Toss up between a set middling price or taking your shot at spending less but possibly spending more. Or just saying "this isn't worth it to me" and not getting the horse, which is of course a valid option.

I mistyped when I posted but since I couldn't edit I figured nobody would insist it attains ROI in less time than it takes to pay off an average vehicle loan (except the vehicle loan is worth a lot more).

I hope everyone is super proud of their excitement that it will take five years to make it worth paying passes for the love divines default smiley (lol)

How/where does anyone draw the line at how long is "too long to be worth it? Some also want to collect the horses in addition to get gifts from them, so if they're excited at the chance to buy them outright and check them off the list, then good for them.
Players pay absurd amounts for coats that do nothing, and you'll only make back what you spent if you manage to find someone else who values it the same, or more, than you do.

Getting back to the topic of spoilers, was this image ever posted? It was on Instagram last week.

I'm commenting on the whole "it's going to take x years to pay me back" thing. But it's long so I'm putting it under a banner.

I don't understand this thing about wanting divines to pay you back. The chances are that you'll need to fill the meter for every divine and that will cost a fortune every time it happens. And the chances are that I - a non-pass buyer - won't be able to afford the splurge every time something that I do want comes out. I know that pass droppers will cost more than what they're worth and don't expect them to pay back what I spend on them. What I do expect is that they will drop enough passes to contribute towards me getting another divine and help me maintain a steady pass income for when I'm saving up. If they're not going to do their job then I don't want them in my farm because I don't consider them worth buying. If they do end up in my farm anyway without me spending passes (like through ascent) then yay I guess. They're welcome to contribute if they're there. It's just that I'm not willing to spend fortunes to get them because I don't consider them worth the fortunes that it'll cost.

So for pass droppers, I draw my line at how many passes they drop per month - something that drops 20p per month/240p per year is NOT something that I consider worth spending passes on. They only drop enough passes to buy 1 TC per year, so I'd rather keep saving for something better. On the other hand, if it drops 240p per month (or 14 TCs per year) then I'll gladly splurge on it. If I'm going to have to pay fortunes to fill a meter, then at least make sure that the divine that I'm splurging on is worth it. That way I can save up by not splurging on junk just because Howrse threw it at me and then spend my savings on something that is worth the splurge.

Also, remember that the price range to fill a meter for a decent pass dropper stays constant. It's always 12-16 fragments per item. (Howrse tried doing 2-9 fragments per HoP for devoted indigo once upon a time and it didn't end well so I don't think that they'll do that again.) If you get more than that then Howrse must be in the mood to give.. and that's rare. So whether you're filling a meter for a divine that drops 50p per month or a divine that drops 80p per month, it'll cost the same because it's a divine that drops passes and Howrse doesn't make those cheap. The only difference is what divine you end up with after you fill the meter. I know that if I'm happy with the outcome then it's passes well spent and that's the end of the story. Then I start saving up again for the next one, the only difference now being that I expect to have enough passes to fill the next meter sooner because of the new addition to my farm. I don't care how long my new addition will take to pay me back. What matters to me is that he's doing the job that I got him to do.

Also, as Legacy Ann said, some players are happy to splurge on divines that drop items like coats. Some are happy to splurge on GA coats. Those will probably be solely for the purpose of collecting nice coats. In other words, those horses are not going to be sold again to make a profit. But the players that splurged on them are still happy with the outcome of their splurge.

So moral of the story: if you're not happy with the outcome after you splurge and fill a meter then don't bother filling the meter in the first place. Almost everything of value will cost fortunes. Even the divines worth absolutely *nothing* cost fortunes (like slepinir.. which was actually cheaper last round because it costed 20k passes when it came around before the last round.)

And for reference (NB: prices before Howrse switched to using a constant fragment drop rate):
Highest price I've ever seen: Slepinir at 20k passes. Not including the devoted indigo incident, mainly because it was in the HoPs which tend to be easier to stockpile than TCs/GFs.
Jade, Jupiter and Io standard price: 12k-16k passes (12 - 15/16 fragments per item).
Other divines: around 8k passes (40 fragments per item).
Falla-family, gypsum: 1600p (125 fragments per item).
Reserved sales: seasons (1800p+ per divine), zodiacs (800p+ per divine), love (1200-1400p per divine), wilds/chimeras or whatever other mutant things with an expiry date on their perk (900p per divine).
Correct me if I'm wrong but these prices are still pretty much standard. Although I am doing this solely from memory so the prices may be wrong..

Anyways, my point is that this is how much it costs to fill the meter or buy a divine. I personally plan to fill the meter every time because lucking out just doesnt happen (I've needed to fill the meter for falabellas..). Why bother calculating how long it'll take a divine to pay you back..? The cost will stay constant so either you pay it and fill the meter to get a new divine or you don't pay it because the divine isn't worth it. What's the point in doing calculations? Just to complain that it's too expensive? And you think that complaining in a forum will convince Howrse - a BUSINESS - to drop their prices? Really?

I'm commenting on the whole text, but I wanted to see my own message ;P

In the first half, you actually had me feel better about the passes I spent on the indian love divine on another server. I just realised I'm a little glad to own it. Thank you! =)

About the question why people are calculating this:
Click to display
It helps me compare the prizes and estimate whether I should only go for it if I really want it or maybe could also take it because it's cheap. Like this I could also compare the prizes to the black friday prizes for example. So I could see, that Jade with his 14 fragments per titans was cheap as the pass dropping horses during black friday are, paying you back in a little less than 5 years.
If you're not that sure about a divine it can help you to get a feeling for it.
But I also agree that it's very helpful to calculate like you do with "how many titans (/200 passes) will it drop per year?"
So, currently I'm doing several things to estimate whether I want to go for an offer or not: (assuming to have to pay the full prize)
* when will it break even and start paying me some passes back?
* how many passes do I get per month currently and how many passes will it be after I get it?
* => how long will it take me to get my passes back to the amount I have now?

The answer to the first question is a little frustrating. The answer to the second one is okay, counting daily objectives towards that number as well. The answer to the third can actually be pretty motivating. If you say "I need 5k passes + some luck BMI from inventory to go for a divine", with daily objectives and some pass dropping horses you might be able to afford going for the next offer in a few months.

I have been waiting for YEARS for that wild to come out!!!! default smiley :o It's the only wild I don't own. I think the only way people got them in the past was to buy pass packs or perhaps they showed up in TC's on the higher levels. Since I don't buy passes, it's been a long long wait for me. I really hope it will be in sales because those other pricey Divines are getting most of my passes.
