I have a question that I don't see anyone else discussing: What will happen to all the DA coats?

I honestly believe there is no reason to worry about our Diamond Apples. Howrse treats DAs like special coats. I hid the evidence under a spoiler because it is very long and dry. I have no formal training in technical writing, so read at your own risk. (In other words, it might turn your brain to mush. default smiley :$ )

Diamond Apples behave like pre-Creation-Space coats. Notice that ordinary horse graphics have always been compatible with Helios' Rays, but pre-CS coats and DAs never have. Notice that pre-CS coats and DAs aren't compatible with the new immersive backgrounds either, so they are stuck in simple, framed boxes.

If you compare the urls for base horse image files, DA image files, and GA image files, you'll notice something interesting. I'll show you.

Here is the url for a current base graphic, taken from a light gray Arabian without a special coat: http://www.howrse.com/media/equideo/image/chevaux/normaux/arabe/gr-c-grand.png?1828806360

Here is the url for another current base graphic, taken from a dun Arabian without a special coat: http://www.howrse.com/media/equideo/image/chevaux/normaux/arabe/sbl-grand.png?1828806360

By studying the urls (rather than just looking at the pretty images) and applying simple sleuthing skills, you'll notice some interesting clues. All of the base horse graphics follow a pattern at the end that is easy to decode: http://www.howrse.com/media/equideo/image/"species"/"age"/"body type"/"color".png The base horse graphic for a light gray Arabian can be interpreted as http://www.howrse.com/media/equideo/image/"horse"/"adult"/"Arabian body type"/"light gray".png The base horse graphic for a dun Arabian can be interpreted as http://www.howrse.com/media/equideo/image/"horse"/"adult"/"Arabian body type"/"dun".png If you continue to examine the urls for the base horse images for other breeds and colors, you'll notice that the pattern holds true, but you'll see a totally different pattern when you look at the urls for DAs.

Here is the url for a DA, taken from a light gray Arabian with a DA that makes it appear to be piebald: http://static.howrse.com.s3.amazonaws.com/Creation/42188-normal.png

Here is the url for another DA, taken from a light gray Arabian with a DA that makes it appear to be identical to an ordinary dun Arabian: http://static.howrse.com.s3.amazonaws.com/Creation/8941-normal.png

The first thing that makes DA urls interesting is that they feature the domain name for a third party image hosting service. The second thing that makes them interesting is that they include the word "creation". Keep those two things in mind when you look at the url for a GA. Finally consider that the base graphic for the dun Arabian and the second DA look identical when you look at the images, but the urls are very different!

Here is the url for a GA, taken from a light gray Arabian with a GA: http://creation.howrse.com.s3.amazonaws.com/100098647-normal.png

Here is the url for the same GA as above, but taken from a cherry bay tobiano Paint Horse: http://creation.howrse.com.s3.amazonaws.com/100098647-normal.png

Do you see what I see? The url for the GA coat has a lot in common with that of a DA. It also includes the domain name of a third party image hosting service. It also has the word "creation". Isn't that interesting? Now look at the code number. People in the RC Topic have been calling that code number the "coat number" for years. Indeed, that's exactly what it is. Notice that the url is associated with the coat and not the player's horse.

Do you see that even the url for the DA has far more in common with that of a GA than with that of a base horse graphic? Do you see that even Howrse refers to both DAs and GAs as creations?

These clues suggest that DAs have been completely "disconnected" from the internal codes that control base horse graphics on this game. Yes, DAs have the same body shapes as the current ordinary horses, but that just creates the fun illusion that DAs are base graphics with interesting colors. The evidence gives me reason to believe that DAs are actually special coats. Our other special coats -- GAs, RCs, 5th Elements, Fluttershy coats, and Bewitched Pumpkins -- aren't going to change. Based on all of this, I predict that our DAs will remain untouched, too, when the base graphics change.

I know that was long and some people will think it was complicated, but the evidence is pretty solid. Based on that evidence, I predict that nothing is going to happen to our DAs when the base graphics change. default smiley ^)

There's both Hackney horses and ponies. They come in two varieties.

By the way, I took the time to dig around and study base graphics, DAs, and GAs because I was worried about my favorite unicorn stallion. He is a foundation Peruvian Paso unicorn with a totally unique Diamond Apple. I would be heart broken if anything ever happened to him. So, I did research. Now I am totally assured that I have nothing to worry about. default smiley :-))

Not sure I am a fan of the Arabian Breed coat, although I ADORE the Curly default smiley (l) The Curly is the only one I like. Not trying to be mean or anything, the artist did a wonderful job for sure, just like the way the horses are now =)

i do not mean this in an offensive way, but the very talented artist(s) who made these coats need to use a better reference for the QH/Paint/Corillo coats. The necks are too thin, the hindquarters need to be more rounded and the forearm muscle needs to be just a hair smaller. I hope that they realize thatdefault smiley ;)default smiley :d

What is the next promo
By Retired breeder, 25th March 2014 04:49:15
Everyone's talking about the parade, and how its going to be like the last one. But does anyone remember the parade promo from a few years ago? You had horse floats, and you had to get horses assigned to floats. You could only use ten of your own horses for you floats, the rest had to come from other players. The best horse to have on your floats was Harlequin, I think you got him every time you bought 10 passes. He would be worth even more if you put masks on him (he could have up to six, all different colours) This is one of the only promos that has never been repeated (at least not in a similar way) which I think is kinda sad; we have all these Harlequins that don't do anything.

Another promo that wasn't repeated was the Egg Promo (I can't really remember what it was called...) You had a Fallabela egg in your breeding farms, and if you got it to hatch, you got to keep it. I really liked this one (even if I didn't get anywhere with it) because having it in your farms, and being able to view it as though you owned it, makes you want it even more!default smiley (lol)

Just looked back at the new coats... I think I worked out why I'm not too pleased about some of them.

First off, I'm not sure about the manes. I was thinking about how I liked the old style better, but looking at the new ones, they are actually quite nice, I just don't think they match the rest of the horse. Some of them look quite nice, but quite a few feel like they are lacking in texture compared to the coats The more I look at them the more I get confused about what it is that I don't likedefault smiley :s Maybe the colours are just slightly off. Like this one:

I like the mane, but it just feels strange on the horse. I do love the mane on this one though:

I think the second problem I have is the shading. Some of the coats have more contrast in the shading, particularly around the body. I like this better, it looks crisper and to me just generally a lot nicer. I think the ones with less shading around the body look flatter, especially compared to the details some have on the heads and legs. Some of the best ones in my opinion:

But some just have a lot less:

The face is so cute and detailed, but the rest of the body just feels like its lacking something. This one has the same problem:

You don't really see much of the horses' muscles, like you do in others (I'm sorry if this is a breed thing, I don't spend much time around any breeds except throroughbreds)

This one is another with so much detail in the face, yet there is hardly any muscle tone on the neck and body.

There also seems to be something wrong with proportion, like the neck is too long, the head to small, etc. Again, I'm sorry if this is a breed thing.

The head and the neck are both beautiful individually, but when put together its just feels a tiny bit off. It looks to me like the body of the horse is on a slight angle, which would make the head and neck look better, but his angle feels lost in the back legs.

I'm sorry if the is just me over thinking things, and overall I'm starting to feel a lot better about the new coats. The more I look at them the more I like them. I think the artist has done a great job overall, but there just seems to be a few things that could be better.

Wait... I'm looking at the first of those pictures on my tablet screen now, and the mane looks different. On my computer it almost seemed to be a dark brownish red, but now it looks very dark brown or blackdefault smiley (o) I like it a lot lot better on my tabletdefault smiley (lol)

I think they should do what they did in v1 to v2. They allowed you to choose what coat you wanted.. so you could choose wether you wanted all of your horses to show v1 or v2. I think that would be a great idea, give people time to adjust.

I wish they would change the coat of the Akhal teke so that the ribs showed thourgh because in real life a healthy Akhal teke has its ribs showing.
The new tb coat creeps me out. It looks like it is aboult to be blown over.
I like some of the new coats, particually the hano.default smiley (y) default smiley (n)default smiley :)

It would be awesome if the howrse team made the old coats into ga coats that didnot retire. So if there was a particular coat you like out of the ones we have now, you can have it to put on a horse. But the horse would have to be the corresponding breed e.g, to put the old tb coat on a horse the breed of horse would have to be a tb to avoid confusion.
I prefer the new Paints.
Even if they look like they are sick, it's at least better then having a muzzle that's shorter then by the Pekingese's... :P

I guess that the new tb coat 7s still better in some ways, and the welsh pony is just lovely, even though it looks a little horse like.

@775k
You get tack and equip your horses. Then the judges look at the horse and you get points.
And with the points you can buy items and if you get enough you can even buy the Divine.

Oh cool! What will get you a higher score from the judges?
It's the tack that matters.
In order to get more points, you'll have to equip your horses with better tack.
Also there is a VIP bonus, where you pay 10k per horse, so you'll get more points.
And there is a color bonus, where you match the color of the tack, for e.g. you use a black saddle, black bridle, black ear net, black rubber bands etc.
