Below is a story I started based off of some of my horses. (And haven't continued it for years. But here it is :') )
~~Firannus was born of the fires of Gaia along with his sister, Florcassa. He is a shining symbol to all who pass, as well as a mentor and friend. May his flame be eternal even as more rise and fall.~~
The Guardian
Of all the creatures born out of the fires, one was scarred unlike any other. Firannus was born as
Orgath,
Stallion of Night, brought his wrath down on Ouranos, becoming the tyrant over the
Heavenly Herds. Firannus, watching the last of the blue sky fade into darkness, was consumed in a second flame, the one of a purging darkness that clashed over his body. In this way, he spared his younger sister and twin, Florcassa, from a curse that would forever follow him.
Gaia fled with her two newborns, assisted by Ramuis, a unicorn guardian, into the mortal plane, where the door was shut behind them in an attempt to stop the spreading darkness. They entered a land of misty skies and cool, rolling hills. And there, Firannus and Florcassa grew up, though one wasn't meant for the land of easy hills.
Firannus had been strange since he was a foal, his coat which had once been a shiny white, had charred and molted into a brown, the first in his line to be without the heavenly touch of silver and gold, which would have surrounded like an aura. Worse than that, he'd go through terrible fits of rage where he'd lash out at those around him, consumed in this nearly vile aggression. It was the beginning of his curse.
Soon, nearly all the mortal horses avoided him, leaving only his mother, sister, and the guardian unicorn. There was an unsettling presence about Firannus, and even his wings were beastly. However, he found comfort in the lonely mountain peaks and grey summits. This was his life, native to a world he hardly remembered and stranger to the one he knew.
But one day, Ramius barreled through the mist with urgent news, rearing in the air.
"My lady!" The snow-white unicorn stomped his front legs on the ground and flicked his tail. "The day we feared has come."
Gaia, no longer a monarch in the Heavenly Herds, was puzzled by his use of her title and lifted her head from grazing, crystalline blue eyes finding the dark coals of the unicorn's. "Has something happened with my son? My daughter?" Her voice was strong, yet calm, but her eyes gave away motherly concern.
Ramius snorted and walked closer, then turned to face a crooked peak in the distance. "As I was walking, I saw mist on the high mountain pass. Dark mists."
Gaia's ears flicked, and for a moment, her eyes widened and she unfolded her wings. The moment she had seen Ramius, she knew something had been wrong. But of all things, after two years, had the darkness begun to spread?
"I'm going to find my children." Gaia tossed her head and began at a brisk trot, and Ramius whirled around and joined her.
"I will watch the entrance. If anything else happens, I'll be the first to discover, perhaps even find a way to find seal the crack. Your children shouldn't have to deal with any of this."
Gaia narrowed her eyes, but didn't slow. "They were raised knowing who they were and the stories of our people--this is something they shouldn't be concerned about."
"Florcassa will be fine." Ramius gave a light snort, head held high, having spent much time with the two foals. Without their father to guide them, Ramius had stepped in, though in many ways he wished he could do more.
"No...it's Firannus. If he becomes worried, he could very well try to become protective."
Gaia and Ramius both sighed and slowed at the edge of a cliff overlooking a vast valley. Horses from the Heavenly Realm were known for their strange and bizarre gifts, but even in her own son, Gaia couldn't figure out what that gift was. It had been tainted at the moment of his birth, painting her children as opposites, despite them sharing a womb. She wasn't a fool to leave her children unprepared for the world they'd left, but it had never been serious or urgent. But now, it was likely that the dim sky they saw in the sky could be blotted out.
And since Gaia hadn't found the legendary guide in the mortal plane, she was without path or plan to begin to face the horse who ripped her from her husband and mate. But, finding strength from the well of her soul, she have a mighty leap from the cliff and began to soar over the valley, looking for her children.
