Cardigan Bay was a champion New Zealand pacer of the 1960's.
Born at Mataura, in 1956, he had an impressive racing career. He raced in New Zealand, Australia, Canada and the United States.
When Cardigan Bay died in 1988, his driver Stanley Dancer said of this horse "At the end he was going on heart alone.....what a mighty heart it must have been"
There was a song written about him that many still recall.
There are also some pictures of some superb looking New Zealand thoroghbreds.

These are wild kaimanawa horses in their natural habitat. They are found in the central North Island of New Zealand and for many years were just culled off. After much campaigning a number are rounded up and sold by ballot.
