Lesson Horses

Lesson horses are a rare breed. Not just any horse is a good lesson horse. You can't just take a stubborn, slow, dead sided old pony stick a beginner on them and say that is a good lesson horse. We seriously do not give them enough credit for dealing with so many different riders at so many different skill levels but they are really the life blood of equestrian sports. Almost everyone starts with a lesson horse and not all who ride will ever have their own horse so we need these horses.

Who is your favorite/best lesson horse? Was it the bomb proof pony that had a bone shaking trot but taught you how to post? That crazy quarter horse who would come to a dead stop if you rode too far forward but was dynamite at barrels? The old thoroughbred who'd been retired to the lesson barn after years of shows but finally gave you the confidence to take that first vertical and even a little oxer? The dressage schoolmaster who STLL knows more than you?

Sing the praises of the lesson horse (past or present) you love best.

I had my first show on her and did a costume contest on her, my first canter, and the first lesson pony I've ever rode, not the first, but the camps I went to the ponys where always owned by someone else. unfortunately shes old, but shes still strong and going. shes so strong considering her past, even though shes slow, she moving as fast as a pony can go from what she was throughdefault smiley (l)default smiley (l)default smiley (l)

default smiley (l)default smiley (l)default smiley (l)default smiley (l)I want to praise Lukas, who was a fiery bay Arabian gelding, who taught me how to deal with difficult horses, or horses that have a habit of biting. He also taught me how to keep a seat when he trotted (when he did it was uneven and unpleasant, unless he went slowly). I also want to thank him for just being a cute and nice horse, even if he was more difficult.

Rest in peace Lukas, you are not and will never be forgotten until the day I take my last breath.default smiley (l)

My favorite lesson horse was a horse I used to trick ride on named mikko. He came from cavalia odysseo. He taught me the basics of trick riding and helped me gain confidence. default smiley :)
The next horse after him was Cowboy another horse from cavalia odysseo. He got hot every time we ran the pattern. He was a good horse to he was an own son of Smart Aristocrat. He taught me how to ride fast and hot horses correctly.default smiley ;)default smiley :-))
