Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

Thank you
zepharo

If anyone has personal issues with another player, or needs something back from another player(items/passes), other than covers/fills-please take it to private pms...anymore posting here will mean an instant forum ban without a warning.

Edit by pixiesbite

A reminder that this is not the place for trading/buying/selling BMI, horses or advertising or asking for someone to train your horse.
If any of these things occur, you will be forum banned without prior warning.

Oh yeah, cross breeding is funner than pure breeding I think. More exciting. =)
By Retired breeder, 21st April 2010 22:24:46
And you never know what'll come out exactly. There's disappointments, but then there's wonder horses that blow you away.
Hmmm...Is it harder to get good horses?

I think it is easier to breed good horses. Crosses just about always have better skills in an area than their pure breed, so they perform better in that area.

Very nice Forest Queen. Hey, I ran into one of your cross horses in cross comps, a nice one she was. 21* Tb/Arab I think.. had Vegas in the name and she was rainbow. She got first place.
Hmm..so maybe I should start breeding crosses with a certain area of preformance?

The main thing that isn't allowed in here (aside from being off topic and such) is advertising horses for sale. zeph gets on our tail if we try it default smiley :p

RB, cherokee is basically doing what lolly and I are doing except she's doing dressage and our horses are spectacular in stamina default smiley :p

Hm, I'm not trying to be a rebel but wouldn't it be okay if you said that you have a cross horse for sale as a side thing to the main message you post?

What certain area of performance are you wanting to do alys?
By Retired breeder, 21st April 2010 22:55:45
Oh, and thanks zepharo! (for earlier reply)

Okay, and how about doing what Cherokee said like "I can breed you a baby like such if you want, PM me" and do business through PM? I want to try and not get a big red X, lol.

Alright, now try choosing breeds that you like. Look at their skills and see which ones you can mix to improve the galloping and/or dressage aspects of that breed. Using the arab example again: Say you want Arabians that are better in galloping races than pure Arabs. You can breed a good paint mare with an Arab to get this.
If you want good dressage and a good race horse try IH/paint crosses or IH/app crosses

I believe you are really only supposed to say something like that in response to an ad about someone looking for something. That's the way it works in the NIB and RC threads

Hmm..IH/Apps, what area of preformance would that create?

Here is the Appie ranked 2nd in dressage, it is half IH. If the horse is appy dominant it will create horses that look like that and that will excel in dressage rankings

I've had great results PMing other players if I would like a covering. If you are posting your favourite crosses here, another player might see a horse that will work with one of theirs.
So it stands to reason that it would be okay to PM them.
If the other player doesn't want to send a cover, there is always someone else. default smiley :d
I like to crunch the horse's skills numbers before asking for a cover or accepting one because the requested horse's skills may not mesh well. I have requested a covering from one horse and the player has kindly let me know that they have an even better choice.
I have found this topic to be very helpful and the players contributing to it to be very friendly.
If you have a horse you want to sell, place a link and description on your page near the top. Most of us suffer from incurable curiosity and will click it.default smiley :-))

Right, but what about the IH's side? They'll excel in....racing? I mean, aren't appys generally a western breed?
